Question about Marlin 39A Deluxe Squirrel Gun

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and am hoping someone can help me out with some information. I have a Marlin 39A Deluxe gun with a engraved squirrel in the stock. The serial number starts with a "T". I am finding conflicting reports and very little information about how many of these guns were made. I found a forum post (different than this forum) that stated only 4 of these guns were made in 1960, which I believe is what I have. Can anyone confirm this information or point me in a direction to find out some more info? Thanks in advance for the help! buck357

The sheet that I have says in 1960 (T prefix)
390 of the 39A Presentation(Chrome)
plus 6 with a scope

380 of the 39M Presentation(Chrome)
plus 4 with a scope

4 of the 39ADL

In 1961 (U prefix) there was
94 of the 39A Pres.(Chrome)
plus 1 with scope

116 of the 39M Pres.Chrome)

1812 of the 39ADL

and so on.

This was supposed to be info compiled by a Marlin employee. Not sure who.

Nothing would surprise me but, Brophys says 500 of each presentation models in chrome 1960 with the blued deluxe 61-?

I was wondering if the rifle in question was stamped for 1960 and released in 61 like all models they started to build them the previous year they were released, but stamped with the year they were made.

If so I see nothing special like the 1970 models some are stamped with a 69 date code.

Now if the 4 made in 69 were special some how and different than all the rest that is something, but other than that its just an early production rifle, first few of the run.

If only Marlin would have kept better records!

So many unanswered questions we all are trying to figure out now!

Where, went all the way back to original post and still missed any photos ?
Chromed action with fancy walnut should look pretty good.

I agree that it is the same rifle that was sold in 1961, 62, and 63. If there is no difference in each one, then why does everyone try to collect one from each year. I have found several forums and information that 4 were sold in 1960. I am calling Marlin to see if they can shed some light on this rifle I have.

You can try, but Marlin is no longer Marlin anymore. You will probably get a hold of a Remington flunky, who doesn't have a qlue, as to what you are talking about. But you can try.

As to why someone would want one from every year. It depends on the direction that you want there collection to go. I would like to have one of every model, that Marlin made. It isn't going to happen, but I can try. Some want one of every veriation of a certain model. If they only made them for a few years, then one of evey year, isn't out of the question.
It is all depends on how broad of a collection, that a person wants to go for.

congrats I heard only 4 made that year also I have one so now we know where 2 are . checking my serial number we are 4253 off. Mine T 119xx anv 39a #135 T110xx, Anv 39a #481 T225xx and Anv 39m #453 T238xx, so your serial number falls into the time line. I do not think they ran these as one continuous run because the #'s are all over the place. Question when you pulled the stock was there a "X" stamped on the side of the receiver? Just a quick check the "X" is to indicate a better quality stock. And yes I am a nut that collects squirrels.
