I have located an old Marlin 22 auto in a pawn shop. I have never seen one like it , and it has no model number on it . Just the roll marking on the barrel , The Marlin Firearms Corp. and the address. It is marked 22 long rifle . The gun uses a 6 shot detachable magazine , and the action is held in by a large round knurled nut in front of the mag well. The safety is a push tab looking thing on the rear of the action. I can not supply pictures as it is still in the pawn shop, and not up for sale yet. Any help on the rifle would be appreciated . Or any where to look it up.
Thanks , Tom

Here are cropped parts of the 1935, and 1936 catalog.

The Model 50 was the first, and shot from an open bolt.
They then came out with the A-1 in 1936.

If it is the 50, extra mags, are $100+.

Thanks for the info. This one looks to be a Model A-1 . It's in pretty good shape for its age. Is there anyway to find out when this one was made ? Are these guns fairly reliable ? I might like to have it just for it's neatness factor. I don't know what they will be asking for it. They also took one other rifle in with it. A Rem 521T Jr. model. Still has it's Lyman 57 sight on it. It was made in 1948. Some kid inherited his grandfathers 's guns and went straight to the pawn shop with them. A shame.

The A-1, A-1E was made from 1936-40.
The A-1C, A-1DL was made from 1941-47.

On both sets of models they changed the stock design.
So if you had pictures I might be able to get closer, by checking out the Marlin catalogs from those years.

I will try to get back there and see if they will let me take some pictures of it. I'm pretty sure it is a closed bolt gun. I only have 16 22 rifles , and only 3 of them are Marlins . As you can see , I need more. If his price is reasonable , I will own It. Sorry SDM , I have a weakness. Heck , I will probably buy the 521T also. You guys have been a wealth of information.

Well, still no pictures , but we have agreed upon a price . I will own it in 19 days. Seventy-five dollars. Can't pass that up. This gun is just like the above picture of the A-1 above, but no checkering on it. Plain stock . Very clean rifle , the bore looks good as well as I can tell. The gun is about 85 percent , with no rust . I will put up pictures of it when I get it.
