Which OLD Peep Sights Fit a 336?

I have tried to feel my way around the web and find which old peep sights fit a Marlin 336.

So far I have found that Lyman 66 LA, 56 LA, Redfield 70 OM, 80-OM, 102 OM were made to fit them.

Please let me know if these are correct. Also I understand that the 102 OM was made of aluminum alloy, is this correct? Any model details I should be aware of? What about the Redfield Microsteel, Trophy and Record?

I want to get an old sight that is period appropriate for an old 336 and a model 36. I am not interested in tang sights at this time for these rifles. I had a Redfield sight booklet at one time, but have misplaced it. If there are any sights that are made for another gun that works for the 336 I am all ears as long as it does not need any major work like milling off a 1/16" or "filing off the round part".

I think I know about all the modern units including the Skinner. Nothing against any of them and I own several that work great, but the old steel units just look better on an older unD/Ted gun IMO.

The more specific the better.

Thanks

First most that have a square opening for left side mounting will work, made for a Winchester levergun they will work on a Marlin. There were a few of the Lyman and Redfields that were made for narrow actions like the 39 and 39A around, I have a Redfield and wound up taking a mill to it to make it balance on my 336 had to remove .100

For the most part square opening and the screw spacing is one thing the different manufactures agreed on.

Figure models made for the Marlin 36s will also work.

I had a customer return one that he said Breakfree CLP removed the bluing from... Whatever happened, it also removed the bluing from the screws (factory black oxide) sooooo... I refinished the sight and it was new again..

If you want one to look old, maybe carry it around in your pocket with change, pocket knife, ammo, keys, etc...

OR... I can always supply you with one "in the white" with no bluing at all... Brownells sells a "Browning" solution or Birchwood Casey makes a product called "Plum Brown" that also makes for an antique look.

My brass sight on top of the model 375 Marlin is starting to take on a nice patina from being out in the weather.. :) Still has a bit of "Bling" though.

Let us know if we can help!
