What advantage does a 35 Remington have over a 30/30. I am on vaca in Tx. And going to go Hog hunting so I will buy a rifle. I found a shop with both a 35 and a 30/30 so what advantage does it have ?
Y'all can whistle Morse code back and forth. :biggrin:She can't talk again :flute: Thankfully  Just kidding, her sign language is atrocious.
I was going to answer this earlier, then the ____ hit the fan.Tom, had a buddy call me today about an "OLD" 1894 44 mag. I told him that I didn't think they were that old. Looking at your notes, I see I was wrong. What are the values, on say a very good condition early run. What should I look for. They were asking $750
The hollow point in those is not made for expanding, it's an aerodynamic feature. That ammo is made to be accurate, with no regard to what happens after the bullet hits its target. You can probably find 100 people on the internet that say they've killed 100s of deer with match ammo, it's not the right tool for the job.Today, I had an totally unexpected Christmas. My favorite BIL (he introduced me into hunting and fishing) called to tell me he received a lot of ammo for free and that there was some useless for him, so he was giving it to me. Coincidentally, he's got a box (or more, I don't know) of Norma .308 Win 180 gr Alaska, which I was checking in the web just last night. It seems a great load for deer and moose at medium-short range (200 yds or less). He also has some boxes of Federal Premium Gold Medal .308 Win 168 gr, Boat Tail HP. I know this load is made for target shooting, but ... being 168gr and hollow point, it should be good for deer at longer range, too, or not? Advise would be appreciated.
Cheers
:dong:So we are planing a vacation in late June. Originally we planned to take 2 weeks and go to Yellowstone and then Colorado. But due to my new position at work I can only get a week for now and the wife still thinks we can do both Yellowstone and Colorado. Heck we will have 4 to 5 days driving and only 9 days to do it all. She wont listen to reason. It makes my head hurt when she wont listen. Sorry for the rant but I just spent the last two hours arguing with a hard hard headed woman!
Sadly in the United States, our present head muslim in charge wouldn't know the constitution even if it fell on his head!:hmmmm: I don't think hillary beast would either.

i have a 1950 336a (not d&t) & a 336sc (it is d&t)I reread the ad. The original stock has small cracks and he replaced it, but the original still comes with the gun. Also, it was drilled and tapped.
He says it's up for trades and didn't put any value. Some people get funny when you make what you think is a sensible offer, but they have a very high opinion of their guns.

Thanks Tim.i have a 1950 336a (not d&t) & a 336sc (it is d&t)
when a waffle top is d&t... it devalues the rifle.
but if you can't see the sights or what you are aiming at, you will need a scope!
from what you described... i wouldn't go over $450.00
i seen a nice one on GB go for $405.00 not long ago.
marlin musta made a lot of 1950 35rem 336a's. i've seen a bunch of them.

this is very true! super accurate bullets made for accuracy, not killing. The hollow point in those is not made for expanding, it's an aerodynamic feature. That ammo is made to be accurate, with no regard to what happens after the bullet hits its target. You can probably find 100 people on the internet that say they've killed 100s of deer with match ammo, it's not the right tool for the job.
