As is typical, I am late to the party.
I have been looking for a decent varmint weight .308 to shoot up all my ammo left from the NRA Hi-Power wars.
I hadn't given much thought to the Marlin X7 series until a friend showed me his standard weight .243 and mentioned that Marlin made a varmint .308. I looks to me to be a darn fine rifle!!
So now I am finding out that Marlin dropped the X series in the fiasco with Cerebus and these rifles are now made of unobtainium.
I need schooling. IF the gunshows ever start up again, what do I want to look for when I am walking the aisles?
Are there other Marlin bolt actions that I want to look for? What seems to be a reasonable price for a decent used X7?
And, if I find a nice standard weight X7, can I screw an X7VH barrel into it to make what I want?
I collect Marlin levers so a Marlin varmint bolt action would be right at home in my safe.
You guys know me, it's all about the hunt. This could be fun!! Thanks, Mike
