I would like to try out round nose bullets in my 7 mm Rem mag. Does anyone make a decent one for hunting deer? I saw that Hornady made some but are discontinued.

SIRJ,

IMHO, you're idea has sound merit. If you can find them, the Hornady 154 gr. RN (#2835) and the 175gr. RN (#2855) Interlock's are fine bullets. I have used both of these out of my 7mm Rem. Mags, and they work very well on deer out to 200yds. IF YOU SLOW THEM DOWN ! 2550fps. or so for the 154 grainer and about 2450fps. or so for the 175gr.
They do not have the higher B.C. of their like weighted spire points, but they have adequate sectional density for their bore size that carries very good momentum when they get to the target. Yes, they will have more of a rainbow trajectory than the spire points, but you can factor for that with just about any good scope, and yes, I said out to 200 yds. The 4th edition (1991) Hornady Reloading Manual has recipes for both bullets. I hope you can find them. Good Luck.........

I have a 7-30 Waters Improved and I shoot some RN but they are
hard to find. I have a bunch of 130's that are Speer and a bunch of
140 Hornady but I think these are discontinued.
Nossler used to make a 120, and I have 2 noxes of them.

I run mine in the 2600 range and it kills effectively.
In a 7 mag you may have to really cut back to slow it down.

I would suggest contacking Hawk as the gentleman said.

Seems to be some good knowledge on the subject on this thread. Please school me a bit on the subject: What would be the "point" of round nose in that caliber. Is there an application when round nose is preferable to spire point even in a bolt, high-performance rifle?

I checked MidwayUSA and did not see anything that would meet your criteria. I also reload for 7mm and haven't come across anything RN for some time now. You might have to go direct to the bullet manufacturers' websites to find a bullet that meets your specs, or you could try casting your own.

Hawk Bullets makes round nose bullets in 7mm(.284")140 and 160 grain, with both .035" and .030" jackets to better fit your chosen velocity window. They're a little higher priced than the major manufacturers, but are reputed to be the best, and a choice of Professional Hunters.
