It’s a serious question my fellow Marlinowner brethren!! A sharpened blade is almost as important as our rifle itself. Almost 😁

What knives will be with you for field dressing, skinning, deboning, camp food prep, or even just the handy pocket knife we all carry?

I will be carry my Ontario Becker 19, a Remington fixed blade, Esee neck knife and a couple pocket knives. Those will be between the Case Xx Marilla, Rough Ryder Doctors knife and my Marbles Toothpick.

Below is a pic of my sexy selection. After looking at what I have chose and have been using for the last few weeks. It really just comes down to what make .Dirty smile!!

Let’s see and hear your choices!!!!!!!

My 'belt knife' (which I use for skinning and breaking up the carcass for later deboning) is my Eka swing blade knife from Sweden.

I bought an orange one so to not lose it in the grass (they are available in black).

One comment I have to make however is that I've never been brave enough to use the gutting blade. Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer to run the blade between two fingers up the paunch.

Also, the older I get the less weight I want to carry, so I'm on the lookout for a light folding knife with about a 4in blade.

Having said that, I've just bought a Grohmann No.1 belt knife that I'm itching to take into the field.

The only thing I usually carry is of the two Buck 119s I have.
One my father bought for me back in the mid 1980s and the other I inherited from my Uncle.

I carry one of two buck 119s as well. One I bought when I was 14 with money I made baby sitting the neighbor kids when my sister was unable to do so. The other was gifted to me by my uncle before he passed. I was also fortunate enough to be gifted his much beloved Belgian made BAR in 30-06 with redfield widefield scope also before he passed.

Field dressing will most likely be a Schrade Sharpfinger or variant of it.

Other possible option this year will be a Giantmouse Jutland.

Next year will be a Bark River Mini Aurora

Or a Bark River Gunny LT

Most of the boning is done with a 6" Mundial boning knife

I usually carry my 3 blade Case pocket knife. I usually am never over 30 min. from home(usually closer)........I shoot "em". Load "em" in the truck and back up to my skinning rack and cooler........i NEVER put a knife on one in the woods. At home my sawzall and 2 blade folding hunter Queen or Case knife does the unzipping..........I have cleaned many with a good sharp pocket knife.........For cutting and debonig at time of processing I prefer my 2 Rapala 6 in fillet knives.

My first real 'hunting' knife was a Schrade Sharp finger. My hunting mentor was a taxidermist, and the Sharp Finger was perfect for preparing hunting trophies. (eg: getting into the fine work around the eyes, ears and lips). I've still got it tucked away at the back of the cabinet. My trophy days are behind me.

Now my emphasis has moved on to meat recovery. For that, I've got a couple of F.Dick boning knives, and a few Victorinox and Dexter Russells.

The question was what knife (or knives) do I carry while hunting. After seeing these other replies with fine examples of knives, if I had any shame I wouldn’t even respond. The pic below is what I carry. It’s a cheap gift from my eldest son. I use this for field dressing. (I do not process my deer; there’s a commercial processor minutes from my house that butchers cattle, hogs, and deer, and they do a great job.). As you can tell, I’m no knife connoisseur.

I'll have a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter on my belt and either an ESSEE 3 or Buck Selkirk in my pack.

It varies, depending on the hunt and how much gear I can take.

Most often it involves a Buck 105 Pathfinder I have had since HS, a Gerber Vital, and a Havalon Piranta. I keep these in a small blue dry bag with a whole lot of HD blue surgical gloves. I recently bought a Buck Mesa to replace my Pathfinder. Target species include deer (whitetail and blacktail), bears, moose, and caribou. No bone saw for skinning, though I carry a Stanley Fat Max 15" hand woodsaw. It cuts through skull plates like a hot knife through butter. I skin critters via the gutless method, so cutting ribs isn't a part of my process.

I still have a couple of those Stanley saws from my 'carpenter days', never thought about trying them on game. I always marvel at the way they will go through lumber, so I will have to try it. Usually all my major bone-cutting is done with a recip saw & blades I reserve exclusively for that task, once the critter is home & hung up. :)

Schrade SP7 folder. Super light, super sharp and doesn't dull easily. Carried in a nylon sheath in my small hunting bag (6X6, carries my license, permission slips, baggies, small personal flashlight, etc.), like others our cleaning station is less than a mile from the farthest hunting area. I also have a damascus knife that i got in Oklahoma when attending the Cherokee National Holiday.

These two mostly.

and a Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter (also S90v)

Also have an old Browning Similar to the first Benchmade above (no gut hook though - AUS 8 or 10) that I usually use for any really hard use (getting through/around big bones/pelvis). No pic handy for that one atm.
