Took my 3030 to the ranch this morning to clear out a few marmots, got this guy at about 60 yds, used my small game load.
100 gr speer plinker and 8.5 grs trail boss. also good for coyotes at close range 50 yds or so. Steve!

Hi friends
The rifle is a 1972 336 3030 I bought years ago second hand in bad shape, So I put a custom stainless barrel on it at 22" and ground off the tang for a straight grip straightened the lever shortened the mag tube.
I made the stocks myself from some walnut I already had from other stocks I have made and removed the bluing to match the stainless barrel.
The rifle is very accurate I have won a lot of meat prizes with it at are local shoots with open sights. With a scope it will keep 5 shot all within an 1" all day long.
Between this rifle and my 450 get carried a lot on my friends ranch, The 450 gets carried from April first until end of may because of the grizzlies and then they move up higher on the mountains and the comes out the 3030. Steve!

Nice rifle you built there, I’m assuming the 450 is a Marlin.
Looks like the Marmots would make a good Mountain man hat.
I bought a Raccoon hat in a souvenir shop in Toronto a long time ago. I paid $100. Canadian money with my credit card and was charged $60. USD on my credit card.
I still have the hat at the range when I shoot my T/C Hawken ML rifle I wear it.

Many years ago I had a friend who harvested small game in the morning and had whatever game it was on the campfire at launch time.
I’m sure if the Marmot was edible he would’ve eaten it.

I have used 2400 @ 15-17gr's with Speers 110gr hp & the half jacket with same 15 - 17 gr's 2400
I like the 110gr HP better because it shot better, with the plinkers I used the LCD on the very front of the jacket if I remember right, bullet will stay where it belongs in mag tube with the lee crimp die used. Without the LCD no way would I load more than 1 in the tube. Kinfa fun, but shoots low as I figured they would.

Where'd you shoot this?
Just looking at this picture and the color of the fur, this looks more like a Woodchuck (aka Groundhog) from the east.
Not the Rock Chucks (AKA marmot) we have here in Colorado.
Woodchucks and Rockchucks are very closely related. I think the woodchuck of the east is a little bigger. They are the biggest ground squirrels in the world.
Maybe it's the difference in terminology in Canada or maybe the regional variations of the species further north. What I'm trying to say is I think you shot Punxsutawney Phil.

If not edible then why are marmots hunted?
