Hi, everybody! My name is Oleg, I am from Ukraine. This is my first post in this forum. Actually, I want to clear for Me the question:
Is the Marlin XL7/ XS7 better or worst of Remington 710/770?
During one year I was owner of Marlin 336 in .30-30 Win. It had a good quality… But the cartridges in this cal. is not very cheap in my Country 2.5$ per one.

Marlin XL7/ XS7 – other type of rifle. Boltaction and very, very cheap, even in Ukraine price is 560$. In comparison with, Remington M700 SPS the price is: 1200 $.
But in our gunshop I see the Remington 710/770 by 600$.

I understand. That this forum calling MARLINOWNERS.COM ;) ;) ;)but, please say your own meaning:
Is the Marlin XL7/ XS7 – analog of Remington 710/770. o may be it is cheap analog of Remington M700….

P.S.

Sorry for my English…. I have no practice during 4 years…

Well, thanks a lot for answers. :) :) I am very happy that Marlin mach better then a Remington 710/770.
Frankly speaking in my Country has a meaning, that Remington 710/770 – trash. But the Remington M 700 – is good rifle. Good not like Sako 85 or Sauer 202… but for its price – very good ( especially such modification like M 700™ VS SF II or M 700 BDL).
However, the price for Rem V700 SPS/SPSS 1200 – 1350$ regardly. As for me this a little bit
much money for budget rifle. :p :p
So, do you think, that the Marlin XL/XS7 – good substitution for Rem V700 SPS/SPSS???? ??? ??? ???

P.S.
Second excuse for my English. :-[

Yep I have both rifles and will say honestly the 770 is a pile of junk, bad trigger mostly and not so accurate. I can't honestly say the Marlin is as good as a 700 because the Marlin is kinda restricted by only having a few calibers to choose from. But for the price the Marlins are absolutely the best buy on the market!

Wow, great thanks for the interest, which you are display to this topic!!!
It is very important, because there are many people think, that Marlin XL7/ XS7 – is a something like Rem 770/710. Actually in Ukraine we know nothing about Marlin firearms products. Only 2 models of rimefire rifles, 2 type of Leveraction – 336 (in .30-30) and 444 (in .444 Marlin). So when the XL7/ XS7 appeared in our gunmarket nobody can say – what is it. Is this accuracy and reliable rifle? When they knew about price – everybody feared. Good thing – can not be cheap. And nobody have practice.

I suppose, That thanks to all of you I am will be the owner of this rifle. (After all steps of our bureaucracy procedure  ).

That is no problem for me. Our market – VERY VERY restricted in assortment of cal.
You can buy cartridge of any caliber, but if it “made in USA/Europe” – price will be 3 – 10$ per cartridge :p :p :p. Russian cartridgeplants produce a few calibers:
.22LR
5.6x39
.223 Rem
.243 Win
7.62x39
.308 Win
7.62x54R
.30-06 Spr
Any other – not for sell ib postUSSR area :-\ :-\ :'( :'( :'(.

I had the remington 770 in 300 win. mag. It was as good as i expected a $300 gun to be. 1 1/2 groups at 100 yds fair bushnell scope with the combo rifle. The bolt was a little sticky in comparison to some other rifles around the same cost. Then a guy comes along and offered me a trade for a nice mossberg 500 that I traded for then sold for $350.00. Took the money and bought the xl7 in 25-06, liked the feel better bolt was way smother. Then I got home and shoot my new favorite rifle. I think the xl7 is twice the rifle of the 770.

We adopted a girl from Ukraine several years ago - Chasov Yar to be exact. I've been to your country a few times for a couple of weeks at a time - enjoyed my stays - spent most of the time in Donetsk.

By the way, Americans, you are very strong nation. As far as I understand in your Country such calibers like .300 WSM, .338 WSM, .338 Lapua Mag., and more powerful – very popular. In Europe, Russia, when we need more power, we use 8x57JS, 9.3x62, 9.3x74R – they are “tender” as compared with “American magnum”.

So let me your confession, what is the secret? Why you so like that evil magnums? ??? ???

I think the xl7 is twice the rifle of the 770. - WOW!!!! Super!!

Many Americans are under the false impression that bigger is better. While this may be true at times, usually it is false. ::) Fom
But How do they enduring the recoil???? Actually I never shoot from magnum rifle. The most powerful is .30-06…
I have 76 kilos and 184 sm. height.
And I don’t know: what cal. is a liminal for me.

I think we are starting a trend back towards regular calibers (non magnum) in my opinion, mostly because of the high cost of ammo and most people over here don't really need the extra uummpphh. I don't know what kind of animals you guys have over there but we do have a few cases for the magnums, Grizzly Bears and of course some people go to Africa. The recoil is just like on any other rifle, you let it pound you. :)

what animals do you have there to hunt?
Hi, there are two most popular hoof in Ukraine:
- roe
- wild boar
Hereby, difference in sizing and weight – huge. Roe from 30 to 40 kilos and the boar from 30 to 300 kilos.

But for roe trophyhunting I have the IZh 18 MH (in .308 Win.) yet. I think, that .308 is owerkill for this purpose, but is better then .223 Rem.

Also, we have European red deer and European elk - but the Licence cost more than 1500$ and its Quantity is very very restrict
