Scout scope mounting question...

Hey guys, I am planning on putting on a scout scope this year. I already have the XS Ghost Ring sights mounted on, but my question about the scope is how do you determine how far forward to mount it on the XS Scout Mount? Does it make a difference how far forward or back the scope sits on the mount? Benefits either way?

Thanks for any help!

Mount it to your scope eye relief and try and get a low to med. ring so you do not have to get your face off the comb. I like the Weaver Grand Slam Steel Lever Lock rings in the high set as they will put your scope eye bell almost right on the rail. And they are all steel and only $29.99 at Fleet Farm. Pete

You do have a range of eye relief but not that much. You will Know when you have it set at the right distance. It is the same as mounting any other scope. If it is too far away or too close, you will not get the full field of view.

If you get it close enough to get smacked by it then you would not be able to see through it anyway so you don't have to worry about that and that is one reason the scout setup is so popular on the 45-70 and other heavy recoiling rifles.

I mounted mine as low as possible, can just get a sheet of paper between the mount and scope bell. Gotta mount it so that the eye relief is right, not for looks. Dont waste you money on Burris QR rings. They only have a corner of the ring that engages the weaver slots... A 45/70 will destroy them in no time!
