If buying a Remlin, be sure to look it over very closely like you would any other firearm. Remlins still had QA/QC problems during the later years but they weren't as numerous compared to 2010-2015.

Honestly don't remember what year my Remington-made 1895 is, but it shoots great. Reliable, feeds well except it doesn't like that "gummy tip" FTX stuff. That's okay, it's fine with all the other 300, 350, 400 and 405 gr jacketed & cast bullets I've fed it over the years.

I've got it set up with a 2.5x Leupold in quick-release rings, and have a barrel mount Skinner peep sight as well. Good rifle, and the big sporting goods store had 'em marked at $548... Couldn't pass it up! :) I had a couple of JM 1895's years ago and should have kept at least one of them. Sigh... So, bought this one, knowing of the QC reports. It's been a good rifle for the most part.

Watch for the Quality Control issues before spending your cash.

My Rem 1895 SBL (REP) is a fine rifle. It is accurate and well finished and flawless function. And I have two Ruger rifles to compare to, Ruger on top, Remington below:

The truth is, shhhh, it not only is my favorite all time rifle, I like it better than the Ruger Marlin SBL. And in another thread hereabouts I explained why already. Best advice, no matter who made it, look it over close for your pet peeves.

I like the XS Lever rail better on the Remington/JM than the propriatary Ruger flat top rail, talking SBL model. And I prefer the non threaded 18.5 inch barrel though the threaded 19 does not give me heartburn. The Ruger lever is nicer and the forward stock is slightly slimmer than on my late REP stamped rifle. The REP stamped rifle, thus far, is more accurate though it is within shooter error. This using factory HLR and Federal Fusion ammo. The metal work inside the receiver forging is better, cleaner on the Ruger, externally the REP rifle is the same as the JM, the Ruger has some very subtle interpretive differences that are of no consequence and arguably better, but there are differences, for example, the polish is mirrored on the Ruger and has a slight brush though might can still shave with it shiny on the REP.

The spiral bolt on the Ruger is another difference which I prefer, the slightly recessed screw holes of the Ruger not so much. To say these things, I am not just being picky but too picky.

I think a lot of people go out and buy an 1895, stuff some Hornady LR ammo in and light it off. It slaps them in the face and smacks them backwards and then they put it up for sale. I like the HLR ammo but it has an obnoxious, harsh recoil. Cycle some HMS Cowboy through it or even the Federal Fusion or Remington (TD safe) 405 and it is a big puddy cat. That HLR ammo in .45-70 just makes me wince but it knocks the hades out of stuff and makes 200 plus yard shots possible and practical with a scope.

Well I met the gentleman who was selling me his 1895 it looked brand new he said he went bear hunting with his 6.5 Creedmoor shot the bear several times and it was still going so he got the 1895 next year and dropped this bear in his tracks and that was the last hinting he did now its my turn I guess but thanks to Washington gun laws I have to wait a few days the picture doesn't do the riffle justice
