recoil pad finishing

So i'm at the final stages of sanding down a recoil pad for my Marlin 1895 22"er. Its a pachmayr F990 triple magnum. Will post pics if anyone wants to see how it looks. But just wondering what people have heard is a good way to "seal" a grinded to fit pad. The instructions say to use furniture polish w/lemon oil... just wondering what other peole use... or if there is an actual product designed specifically for it. The pad is made from soft rubber and it has some foam on it. So i'd like to protect it as much as possible!

Hey there Greg -- I wonder how Armour-All would work. That is what Old Town recommends to spiff up my Royalex canoe.

And Goalieme -- I've made butt stock extensions that look like this one which will be covered with a leather butt sock. Extended length of pull 1 1/2 inches.

Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

I'd like to see the finished product, and know how much extra pull the 990 gives. I'm about 6'3" and lanky, and would like about 1-1.5" more.
i'll post one. I'm about 6'3'' 285 powerlifter, and even with all the meat on my shoulders i still leave every target practice session with bad bruises.. and thats not even with shooting hotter loads. I can't imagine what my shoulder would feel like from shooting garrets or buffalo bores. I figured a good solid recoil pad would add to the ergonomics and improve my shooting ability. I feel like the rubber of the F990 sticks to my clothes when I shoulder the weapon which is better then the factory pad which is mad from a glossy harder rubber which is more slippery and it doesnt stick to clothes but actually slipss off of them. I'll e-mail you a picture... send me your e-mail addy...otherwise i'd have to host it and i don't have the time or knowledge to do that. It actually looks really good on the marlin. I like the feel of the bigger pad of the F990... i have longer arms then most people being 6'3'' so I think that extra 1.5" actually makes it feel more comfortable shouldering it for extended periods of time, with the stock pad the rifle felt really small in my hands, and my wrist and forearms would cramp up because the length of pull was so short

Somebody online was selling a product for limbsaver recoil pads. This product claimed to make the rubber pad slippery so it would not grab your fabric. I can not find this product. I have noticed with my guide gun and the limbsaver pad that when I twirl the rifle sometimes the limbsaver will hang up on some jacket.
