I know both are soft recoilers but I'm curious to see what ppl think about the difference in recoil between the Marlin 336C 35 remington and the Marlin 1894 44 magnum.
From what I've seen and heard some ppl say the 35 irecoils harder and some think the 44 recoils more.
What are some opinons from ppl who have shot both?

Comparing recoil mathematically...

1894/.44 Mag
Bullet weight 240 grains
Velocity 1800 fps
Rifle weight 6.5 lbs

Recoil 13 foot pounds

336/.35 Remington
Bullet weight 200 grains
Velocity 2100 fps
Rifle weight 7.0 lbs

Recoil 13 foot pounds

LOL yes..look at that....this is the reason I ask and the reason why I've heard ppl come up with different answers...

one thing I wonder is that I wonder if maybe the 1894 that is a smidge smaller than the 336 could possible feel like it kick less for a smaller person, like a teen or something because that gun fit his frame better than a 336 and vice versa....a big person might think the 336 in 35 rem feels a bit less kick because it fits him better than the 1894...the actual foot pound force developed are equal but the guns that recieve that force are a little different....

I have both and find them similar. On paper the stats I've seen say the 35 is a little higher comparing factory 200 gr. to 240 gr. for the 44. My 35 weighs almost a half pound more so I figure that accounts for the recoil feeling about the same. I find my 30-30 to feel like it has more recoil than either, though again on paper it should not be that way. The 30-30 has a pistol grip and the other two are straight stocks. I find the straight grip more comfortable to shoot, so I think that accounts for the difference for me. None are hard kickers though, making all three a lot of fun to shoot.
