I have use IMR-4350 & H-335 both shot ok with 85gr bthp Sierra. What powders have you use for bullets from 80 to 100 gr. bullets. Read where slow burning powder works best ?????? Thanks for your inputs on this. Cheers :tee:

As you move up in bullet weight for the .243, the 4350s are always a good choice, but you should consider slower powders as well. IMR 4831, RL19, H4831sc, RL22, MRP, Hunter and Magpro would also give good performance with bullets in the 95-100gr range. Try one or two to see what your rifle likes.

ole timer,

As KLD indicates, the only way to know with YOUR rifle is to test the different powders.

Have been a .243 lover for many years, and recall burning a lot of 4831 even with 75gr hollow points.

As I recall, I've used 4064, AA3100, 4350, H/IMR 4831 and likely have tested a number of other powders over the years.

For some years now, I have been shooting a 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip from my 243 and not using it for game larger the fuzzy little ground critters.

First time I have ever seen 4000fps from one of my rifles. The groups were the pits, but that test load was FAST!

The loads I settled on with that bullet were more in the 3700fps range and it is pink mist time with the little critters.

55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip with 53.5grs H414 = 4002fps from my 22" barrel, very accurate
70gr Sierra Blitzking with 42.5grs H4895 = 3300fps - very accurate
80gr Barnes TTSX - 45.5grs IMR4350 = 3287fps - 1/2" shooter, wicked bad on deer
80gr Barnes TTSX - 48grs H4831 = no chrono'd but around .7"
95gr Nosler Ballistic Tip - 41.5grs IMR4350 - very accurate
105 Hornady HPBT Match - 46.2grs H1000 = 2820fps, under 1/2" @ 120yds, under 3/4" @ 200yds, have shot just over 3" @ 600yds for 3 shots. Have shot this load out to 800yds

Very common with the 105 HPBT:

I heart me some .243!

I have never seen a 243 that did not shoot my all time favorite for groundhogs and my first Deer rifle and now my daughters first deer rifle. I liked IMR 4350 for 100gr bullets Widow

my wife have been using the 85gr bthp Sierra for years, i have killed deer with a lot of different 6mm bullets and none is better than that one. i have a 100yd range at home and one year i did an accuracy test with a super accurate model 70 win. in 243 and just about every powder you could use in that round. the one that shot the very best was h4831 it is the best powder in my 6mm rem. as well.
here is a buck i shot one morning with my model 660 Remington in 6mm as he was chasing a doe.

Not a lot of consensus here. I think that tells you each gun and bullet can be different.
My Tikka 243 loves the 75 gr Hornady HP and Varget. I can shoot under 1/2 inch groups with it. Not sure what the gun can do. I do not remember the load info and reloading stuff still unpacked from a move this fall. I gotta get the new reloading bench built!
