I recently acquired a 336 made in 1976. Of course I don't have an owners manual. Is the manual on the Marlin web site pretty much what I need? Mine is pre safety button but is there anything else I should be aware of that might be different from newer models? Does it come apart the same way? I ran a search on this site but came up empty. Can't believe I'm the first.

Nope. Other than the cross bolt safety, all 336's are pretty much the same as far as assembly and disassembly. Now, replacing parts is a different story. There are some minor differences such as the width of the Hammer changed a couple of times over the years. Be sure to check out the gunsmithing section here. There is a lot of good information and links to a pair of excellent videos on the disassembly and reassembly of the 336 and the 1894.
