Finally got my Dads old sporterized Jungle Carbine from my brother today but my brother isn't one to take care of things when it comes to firearms the rifle itself is in great shape other then a inch of dust that is on it but he left the magazine rust I got the rust off but it pitted really bad.

My question is are the Jungle carbine magazines the same as all the other Enfield .303 rifle magazines??

I need to find a replacement
I have a Marlin round sight hood if someone has the correct magazine to trade.

Yeah that's a left hand stock my Dad was a lefty so am I.

ok...........the more investigating I do the more I'm thinking I have the incorrect magazine .

Something doesn't look right on my magazine compared to the ones I'm seeing on line.
:banghead:

I don't see any like mine with the second catch at the bottom of the magazine.

This is my magazine:

See what you have there is the wrong magazine. Its for a No1, or SMLE. It may work, but its not right for the rifle. The right mag is for the No.4 and No.5. The rib on the back only goes down half way on the later mags, not all the way like yours and the groves on the side are another clue. Pretty sure yours run to the base, when they should stop short.

Two thoughts, first if you want a new mag make sure its for the No4 or No5 (Same thing). Second, keep in mind Lee Enfield mags were not meant to be swapped like modern rifles. The mag like the bolt was matched at the factory. Feeding was supposed to be by 5rd charger clips or single rounds in through the top. If you buy one and it feeds and locks up fine, stick too it.

Also, just a thought but your magazine is worth a few dollars. Even with some pitting. If it were me, once I had a replacement I was happy with, ie fits and feeds, I would sell the older one and maybe replace the money I spent on the new. Happy days..

When you do point out yours is genuine British Military marked. I can see a crows foot and acceptance stamps on the spine.

Way back when the Earth was green and Unicorns roamed, I bought ten No4 Mk1 magazines for $40 from Springfield Sporters, an outfit no longer in business. I still have their catalogs. Anything Mauser, Enfield, Springfield, Mannlicher, Arisaka, and Carcano you needed, those guys had it. And lots of handgun and accessory parts, too. Anything Military was their bread-and-butter. They had a warehouse in Pennsylvania with millions of surplus parts. Shut down in 2008-2009.

Nice rifle! Looks good. Depending on your State Law, some are restricted to five round magazines for hunting. ProMag used to make fives, but they discontinued them years ago. I got two of these, probably in the 1990's.

There was another trick Enfield users used to do. Find a magazine that feeds well, cut it off with a hacksaw at the triggerguard, and weld a floorplate to the triggerguard. Send it out for polish/re-blue and you're hunting legal. I see surplus triggerguards are still available for under $15, that way you can keep your original. Years ago, Numrich used to sell a steel plate cut to fit into the magazine opening, so the rifle had a blind magazine with a four round capacity.

No mag. restrictions here in PA. but if I ever did hunt with it would only load it with 4 or 5 rounds at the most.
