I picked up a 16 ga Remington Model 11 Sportsman at auction a few weeks ago. My FIL had a Browning A5 Sweet 16 at one time but sadly it was stolen. It was a good price and I thought it would look good with the Remington Model 81.
Based on the serial number and receiver decoration (three birds per side) it is from late 1935 or early 1936. It came with a Lyman Cutts compensator and full choke. It alos have a vintage Jostam all rubber slip on recoil pad. That was hard as a rock. I had to slit the bottom with a blade to get it off. There was a Hawkens recoil pad attached to the stock underneath. I took her apart for a good cleaning and cleaned up the wood in my usual manner, going back with a hand rubbed Danish Oil Finish.

These first photos are from the auction site.

I grew up shooting geese with my grandfather's model 11 in 16 gauge. I too, like the hump backs. As for looking good next to a Remington model 81, it makes sense. They both operate on the same John Browning design with the retracting barrel forcing the bolt back to eject the spent casing and loading a new round. ( I have a couple 81s and an 8).

When my grandfather died, my low-life BIL went to the house and took all of the firearms. I have no idea where the model 11 ended up. As usual, I just bought other model 11s so I can still relive great memories with my grandfather. Below are my three. Left to right - An early FN model chambered in 16 ga. 2 9/16 (if you look closely you can see the safety forward of the trigger); a Remington 11 in 16 ga. 2 3/4; a Remington 11 in 12 ga. 2 3/4.
