I got on a waiting list with Kittery in Maine a year and a half ago.
Interesting thing- I called them last week, I have been number 4 on a long list for over a year now.
The manager I spoke with said that Kittery has a relationship with Ruger stemming back 75 years because Kittery has been in business over 80. Their VP spoke with the Ruger VP of Sales recently and Ruger VP said the 336 Classic line has been down for a year due to issues they are having with "finish" I didn't ask and he didn't say what finish but I would guess the stock? Kittery has no issues getting any other new Ruger Marlin rifle...just this one.

Have you checked Gunbroker?

OK I just checked and one seller has 7 for sale at the low, low price of $2400.00. Nope, not from me. I would just buy a Rossi or the Henry. The Rossi has really good reports on accuracy. I have a new one but haven't shot it yet. But its a nice looking well built gun.

I was purchasing something else at KTP about a year ago and asked “Do you have a new Marlin 336 Classic?” Turned out they had “sold” one earlier but something went wrong with the sale. “It’s on its way back to the warehouse. Do you want it?” Hell yes!

I have a Rossi R-95. It is surprisingly accurate. The stock looks like it was finished by a starving kid with a rag and shoe polish. Wood to metal fit isn’t great. However, the rifle functions fine. Good trigger.

Rossi made a couple of engineering changes that I think are improvements. (Put the torches and pitchforks away please.) They did away with the 2-piece firing pin and use a firing pin block instead to prevent out of battery discharges. They also use a modern extractor instead of the 19th Century spring thingy on every Marlin bolt.

That said it’s unfortunate Marlin can’t keep up production of the 336 Classic.

There are several on gunbroker for $850 to $1100. And there are 19 pages of them. I just looked at one page.

I was at KTP last weekend and Ruger reps were there. The 336 Classic production line has been down for a year. They are having issues with the quality of the finish on the furniture. Seems crazy to me that it’s down a whole year but I’ve been on the waiting list for well over a year and the price if they ever come in is still $1,199 plus KTP gives you a free $75 gift card. Last weekend I bought the 1895 SS SBL there and paid $1,119 plus I got 2 gift cards for $150 total. Even Buds online was $500 more than that delivered to me and I got the gift cards to boot plus saved paying an FFL and registered myself on the Mass site as required. $1,000 vs Buds $1,614 delivered.

The are now making 1895's, you have to wait till they finish that run. They can only produce one version at a time from what I can tell. Only one line to produce all the 1895 and 336 versions.
1894's have a separate line. Prob will make another run of classic 336's to be ready for fall hunting season I would guess. They will sell out quickly.
They don't have the capacity to meet demand or they purposely want to keep output low to garner higher prices.

Anyone on here know anything about current issues with production on the 336 classic? The info about ramping up production is like 18-24 months old at this point. I get supply and demand but it seems like the talk about these coming soon has cooled off and less conversation, i.e not good for business. It feels like there is something else going on. I was sold on this gun for awhile but it’s hard when no one is taking names for a waiting list. For context I’m in Dallas, not sure location matters at this point

I’m still on that same waiting list to buy one from 2 years ago but I gave up. Even if they start producing I’m not buying one. I bought the Ruger Marlin 1895 SBL Stainless 45-70 for such a great price 8 months ago at the same outdoor store at a Ruger event that I paid less than $1000 for it. It was the lowest price anywhere and a great rifle.

I came across one at a gun show this spring. Used but looked like new, 800 bucks. Had not found a reasonably priced used JM in good condition so put my dislike for Ruger aside and bought it. Went to put a scope on it, one of the filler screws would not come out, buggered the head up trying. Could I have drilled it and fixed or sent back to Ruger to fix, yep, instead sold it for 800 bucks and called it a day. Never shot it, but it was one pretty gun. Guy that bought it didn't care about the screw issue, he was just thrilled to actually touch one.
