I have been over on SIGFORUM for a while on handguns. Just picked up a Marlin 336 (1980 35 REM). It is in what I would personally call "good" condition. The magazine tube has one place, less than one square inch of bluing showing some surface rust. I am joining to see if there is any "at home" fix for bluing. I consider myself a "gun guy" and I am NOT A GUNSMITH AT ALL. So, I came here for some advice on bluing healing at home or to find out if that is even a thing for a 1980 336. I do have the ability to have the entire rifle completely re-blued at North Georgia Reloading if this is the only option (also a local reputable gun manufacturer of custom precision rifles). This will be a freezer filler for my 13-year-old son and me. It will not be a safe queen. I, personally, do not believe in safe queens.

As for who I am, my name is Daniel Marlow. I spent 6 years in the US Army. Hopped into a fairly easy tour in Iraq from 2005 to 2006. Then came home and spent 16 years as a local law enforcement officer. Retired and decided since I worked for the government for 21 years total and was financially worse off than at 18, I would go to the private sector for a couple of decades to actually be able to buy a gun or two that are wants, like this 336. Side note, I am a licensed Private Investigator who specializes in criminal defense. Qualified expert witness in crash reconstruction and DUI/SFST enforcement. NOT A LAWYER.

Thanks for this forum. I am looking forward to learning.

And a third Tennessean welcome you to the forum!
I'm in the extreme western part of the state, so I think the Great State of Tennessee is well represented!
I'd opt for touching up the bluing rather than a full re-bluing of the rifle. Depending on the rusty spot's location, it may be prudent to remove the mag tube to properly touch up the bluing - IMO.
