Anybody else here as disappointed as me with this show?

The episode where Eustace (in the NC mountains) had the boy sighting his gun...really?

First, they showed at least 3 different guns being shot. The last shot fired during the "sight-in" was with a different gun than what was used in the hunt.

Second, what serious outdoorsman lets someone else sight his food gathering gun?

Third, the guy called the bad shot a "misfire."

Fourth, the narrarator said Eustace was using "old cherokee indian tracking methods" to find his wounded deer, as the camera showed him looking at blood on a leaf...lol

Don't know anything about life in Alaska so I can't comment, but the Appalachian stuff just seems to me to be so contrived that its lost any credibility.

Yeah they were surely chasin there tails with the gun sight in/huntin/misfire stuff, i never knew missin a deer or should i say wounding it could be classed as a "Misfire" :hmmmm: :flute: Learn somethin new everyday!!! :shot:
I do like watchin it though, trouble is just when im getting into it, its over... :ahhhhh:

As far as the Alaska guy, i know i would be shootin that sled and gettin a pack of dogs and a sled, they dont need sparkplugs, and you dont need to be carrying engines 10 miles back to a busted sled to haul my butt around :tee:

I take that back...I once watched most of an episode of "Sons of Guns" on recommendations from a bunch of guys I work with. Terrible. Completely scripted and contrived. They could have just as easily made it more of a documentary showcasing their work, with interviews of the smiths, but no, they had to make it a super transperent, kitschy, and poorly scripted 'reality' show. Booo:shot:

Must be a liberal mountain man, bad shot = mis fire. Liberal lies = mis spoke.

Watched some of them episodes and came to the same conclusion, the camera crew brought him that 50 miles. If it was not for the media he would not have been that dumb to go that far from home in that weather.

I laughed when they were building the deer stand. I wondered why they didn't pull the boards up into the tree instead of putting it on their shoulder and walking it up the rungs. He build it so high up in the tree that I would not like to climb all those rungs to get up there. He did say that the reason he built it so high was because it might keep other people out of it.

I watch the show. I agree, the whole rifle sighting in scenario was a joke. What mountain man doesn't have his rifle sighted in and lets a guy he hardly knows sigh in his rifle. And the use of of the word misfire was making me cringe. Its a decent show and I'll pretty much watch anything that has to do with outdoors and such, so I'll keep watching. But I'm sorry the Eustace guy looks more like a hippie living in the mountains, than a mountain man. I don't live in the mountains, so this just my opinion.

I'm also wondering about the guy out looking for his long overdue friend, who was setting beaver traps. The searcher was carrying what looked like an over/under shotgun, muzzle forward over his shoulder, in bear country, when it was snowing like crazy, with the gun broken open. How realistic is that?

Also, the mountain hippie was startled to discover the roof of his equipment shed had completely rotted away on one side. He must have been busy doing something besides looking after his tools for the past five years.

I suspect these characters are real mountain people who are acting out plots dreamed up by city folks that don't have a clue about wilderness living.

It been posted on other forums by people that know them that the guy in Alaska and Eustice are the real thing don't know any thing about the other guy.I think the directors or whoever ruin it. Quess they try to make it interesting for townies.Swamp peoples about as bad pay attention and you see them shoot the same gator with a couple differant guns or drag a fresh killed one in the boat with the tag already in it

I saw the title so I tuned in.....for about 5 minutes. That's enough, like all reality TV, it sucks. I'd rather read stuff on here.

SwampDude - I suspect you called it right. If so I hope they are laughing all the way to the bank. They have to come across to the "city folk" as being so dumb you wonder how they ever saw 18 years of age. At least Eustace should now have enough money to pay the taxes for a couple of years. He can now leave the bug infested firewood for another "emergency". Good show, but dislike the script writer. I'd of rode out with the cameraman on his sled up in Alaska, not pretend to walk out. The show is a major disappointment. For us guys who live in the city, but long for and love our time in the field, the show is a bust. I chalked it up as bogus as soon as I saw the following: Marty in Alaska shown with a carbine slung over his shoulder while checking his lynx trap. A short time later while still out on the same trap line run, at the cue of the howling wolf pack that was " closing in or something", the narrator says that Marty left his rifle home that day and he's shown without it over his shoulder!?!?! Whatever! Just an attempt to add danger and drama to this contrived mess.

The "misfire" sequence was downright painful. He "misfired" with a wood stocked Ruger No. 1 because his helper didn't properly sight in his black, synthetic stocked Winchester 94. Makes all the sense in the world. The shed Reshingling was a joke too. That shed looked like it hadn't seen a new shingle in 20 years and "suddenly" it was in need of urgent repair.

The constant snarling bear videos are also annoying.. Seems to be pretty obviously a trained grizz.

Eustace does'nt seem to understand property taxes, saying they are picking on him, LOL, heck all landowners have to pay taxes, thats something you can't escape so why does he think he's special ?? I think he's a wee bit slow myself. LOL
