New ones sold for about this price back in the 1970's. You got a genuine bargain! I'm not sure why the model 472 never really hit sales forecasts to remain in production. It was well engineered, crafted nicely, and priced right.

This isn't no Marlin!

Take down is completely different! Stock must come off first, then aluminum tube holding spring for trigger. Then take the two screws out of receiver on bottom, then you work the whole assembly out of rifle! This rifle was dirty but nothing worn out. Cleaned it good along with snaking barrel. Barrel is nice and shinny inside. Putting it back together was n't bad, just a little more complicated then a Marlin! Got it all back together and it cycles ammo out as it should! Now to get scope mounted. I took front and rear sights off. Waiting on front and rear band to top it off, then off to range!

Finally made it out to the range today with Mossberg 472 pca!

Yes! gun does shoot! Only four shots threw it! Hanging head because I never hit target at 100 yds! Range is open only three hours and I was late getting there!

Darn side way pictures! Now that I know gun does shoot, I will take stock and forearm off and strip redo them! Hope they come out better looking then it does now.

Started on stock today on Mossberg. Applied some Citric Stripper to stock and forearm let sit for a hour and used a plastic scrapper to take off slime! Now I started sanding on forearm with some cheap sandpaper Susan had. Using 100 grit to start. Pictures of what stock looks like now and forearm not sanded yet.

After sanding and giving stock a good cleaning, I applied the first coat of Boiled Linseed oil! This is my first time using linseed oil and wow! I guess at least five coats should do it!

It's no Marlin, but I like it and that's all that maters. I have it all back together and going shoot it at range tomorrow afternoon. Have scope barrel sighted in and should be close.
