As the title suggests, I am rebuilding a Glenfield Model 65 for a friend, and it happens to be a "Golden 50" model.
From what I've seen, it looks like the color of the outer magazine tube and trigger are the only differences. He doesn't care about that. He just wants it working again. But it's missing a lot of pieces.

I've looked online for replacement parts, and there seem to be different variants of this gun. So I don't know which variant to choose. How can I decide?

You know, I saw all those "second variation" parts and all, and that is what confused me. But now I see that while it is the 2nd variation, it's the one the Golden 50 used. Thank you for the link! I will be taking pictures of the process, I'll be happy to post them if I am able to.

I think I have a good handle on the parts (for now anyway!).

Another question, the stock is in very bad condition. It was broken at one point and repaired, and all the finish is gone. What is a good way to refinish the stock? I only really know about linseed oil, but I don't know if that is appropriate for all applications.

Alright so here's the thing. I know that the Glenfield 65 and Marlin 60 are very very similar. But not completely the same. I have the barrel and front sight for the Glenfield, and the mag tube for the model 60 Marlin. I believe the issue is that the Glenfield tube has a notch in it, for the pin to go, but the Marlin version does not, so in hammering in that pin, it's actually pinching the mag tube, which won't let the inner tube go in.

SO. I can't find a brass Golden 50 mag tube anywhere. If I use a Marlin mo.60 mag tube, and the mo.60 front sight, would that work?

The Golden 50 (Glenfield 65) uses the large front sight with the pin. The tube I was sold was the Marlin Model 60 tube, which does NOT use the pin. That was the issue. The Golden 50 tube has a notch in it to receive the pin. When trying to use the Model 60 mag tube, it has no notch, so putting in the pin bends the metal of the tube, and makes it not work.

The MARLIN model 60 has a different front sight. It's more like a bb gun, where it's just kinda attached to the top of the barrel. Then it has a saddle shaped deal that holds the mag tube on. The GLENFIELD model 60 /should/ have the right one. I'm going to get into it tonight and measure everything out, figure out what can actually be done here. My friend doesn't care if it's the original Golden 50 or not, he just wants to shoot his rifle
