I recently traded away my 90's vintage Model 60 and now kind of want one back again. I'm trying to decide between the model 60 and the model 795 which as far as I know are the same gun with the only difference being one is tube fed and one is magizine fed. Anybody have both? Preferences?

I like the 795 because I already have the same action on the 70P and the magazines are interchangeble.

Or you can get one of each

I've got both, the 795 is a couple years old and the 60 a couple decades older. 795 is a little more accurate with bulk ammo and a bit lighter/shorter, but the 60 wins out in looks imho (wood vs synthetic stock and fewer polymer parts). If you have an xt22 it can share mags (some) with the 795 so there's that too.

I'd go with whichever you find a good deal on first.

I personally like the older 60's. Less plastic, higher quality (imo), cheaper than the new models and holds more rounds.
Just sold my newer 60sb but keeping my 2 older 60's. Got my daughter the 795. Nice lil gun. As i posted in an earlier thread, pro mag builds a 25 round mag for the 795. And the last shot hold open still works with it. Hard to go wrong with either model.

Essentially the same gun, just tube vs box magazine, so personal preference.

I have both.

My favorite tube magazine Marlin is a 1984 Model 60 with the 24" barrel, long magazine tube, last shot hold open feature and Tech Sights.
My favorite box magazine gun is a 1983 Model 60 barrel and receiver, with the internals and walnut stock from a 1985 Model 995, also wearing Tech Sights.

I asked myself a similar question a while back about the 25N vs the 925 bolt action 22lr.I eventually acquired one of each and can tell you they are so close that I see no difference.I had a 60 and liked it.Just liked the Ruger 10 22 better.Never owned a 795, but have shot them.I thought the 795 was a good little rifle.Although both good rifles, the 60 and 795 have a noticable difference.

I have a model 795 with a model 995 stock ,Walnut ......dip Trigger guard housing..the whole thing is really really nice...

One of a kind I guess.

Also have a few older glenfields.. Squirrelly stocked.
And two newer 60s..
One stainless ..one blue. Laminated stocks.

I love anything Marlin 60 or 795.

Get BOTH !!! 😁

I have both and would take the 60 over the 795. I've never been a fan of short rifles. Longer sight radius and quieter shots are my preference when hunting in the woods. To be fair, I haven't carried the 60 in ages because I have a bolt action. Accuracy is my number one concern when I'm hunting and although the 60 is great, the 880SQ barreled 25N is much better :)

I put click-adjustable peep sights on mine and wouldn't change a thing.

I have both and though the 60 is the new boy on the block and is getting used more I tend to think the 795 is more practical. I like the bolt hold back better on the 795, very easy to open the action and lock it open, much more awkward on the 60 (have to use 2 hands). Jams are much easier to clear on the 795 as you can remove the magazine and get at the stuck cartridge either from the side or bottom - for some reason I've had more misfeeds and jams with the 60 - I think its the way the cartridge rises out of the tube feed. The 795 is faster to reload though the 60 carries more - a couple extra magazines are easy to carry. My 795 has an 18" barrel, the 60 has a 20" I prefer the shorter barrel as both are scoped so sight radius does not matter. The 60 has a wood stock that already has scars. The 795's plastic (now 10 years old) looks like new plus if it gets too beat I would have no hesitation painting it. In the end the safety factor of a removable magazine and ease of locking the bolt back make the 795 a winner. Both are accurate and have acceptable triggers. I'd love to have the stainless 795.
