No JM mark that I can see. I think it it an early Model 100SB. Just wanted to hear what you think.

Welcome to Marlin Owners. In regards to your Marlin Smooth Bore .22 Garden Gun: Don't know if you already knew this or not.... But both Federal (Brass Cased 25 gr. of #12 bird shot) and CCI (Aluminum Cased 31 gr. of #12 bird shot) makes .22LR shot shells. I recommend buying a box of each to see what works best for your Marlin.

I shoot the Federal .22LR shot shell in my S&W 317 3" as a Garden/Rodent gun. Accurate to about 15ft. You could get 20ft of accuracy with a rifle. *Like a shot gun: the further you shoot the shot-shell the shot pattern opens up.

I have several Winchester 61's with the various bores-straight smooth bore, counter bore, and Routledge bore. The counter bore and Routledge bore have the muzzle bored out to .265 and .375 dimensions respectively. The differences also include the depth of the bore. The counter bore is 8" long and the Routledge bore is 10.5". Apparently Winchester didn't want to give Fred Routledge his dues or his royalties so they developed the Winchester counter bore.

This ad describes the 100-SB as having a "special recess choke". Does anyone have any specifications about this 'choke'?

Welcome to the site, and congrats on a neat Marlin. Always thought one of the smoothbore Marlins would be lots better than using my 929 H&R which seems to do better hitting things than my 22lr rifles with the shotshells.
