Yes, stands for Hammer Block Safety (because it blocks hammer from striking firing pin). Thanks!! I think Marlin actually kept a listing for the .375 until about 1985, well into "S" timeframe. It also means they produced the .375 at the same time as the .356 for a time. I believe .356 builds were '83 til '85 or '86. One of mine is an '84 the other an '85 and both my .375s are '80s.

Marlin cataloged guns chambered in 375 Winchester from 1980-1986, but the M375 was not cataloged as a separate model after 1983. Interestingly, from 1984-1986 the M375 is not a cataloged model; but the 375 Winchester chambering remained available as an alternative caliber option in the Model 336CS. I've never seen an original 1984-86 Model 336CS chambered in 375 Win (seen a few re-bores), but have seen a fair number of standard M375's from that same period in spite fo the fact that the M375 is not cataloged as an available model. I suspect an original 336CS factory chambered in 375 Winchester, if located, would be a rather rare find. But getting back to the original question, the M375 was cataloged and/or produced/available from 1980-1986 and the 336ER was cataloged from 1983 thru 1986; so all M375s built after 1982 (and all model 336ER's) were shipped with the CBS (cross bolt safety) or HBS (hammer block safety), whichever term you prefer.

The bulk of 375 production was in 1980.Just a few trickled out in 81,82,83.I have never come across a 375 made after 83.IMO there was no production after 83,even though cataloged. That wouldnt be the first time a firearm was cataloged and not built.
