Maybe I’m just out of the loop, but how am I just now seeing that Marlin has released Darks? 1895 now available, 336 and 1894 coming early 2024.
Still missing that .357 though.

They will sell every Dark they make. The prior Dark series is still fetching good money. Hog hunters will be all over them like flies on stink.

I will wait for a stainless but otherwise traditional 1894 in either .44M or .45C. I would prefer a walnut straight stock but I am okay with laminate for actual use.

I'm sure they are all kinds of practical in field, but like Golphin, it's not for me. I'll stick with blued or stainless steel and walnut. Not even really a fan of the laminated wood furniture on lever rifles.

Don't get me wrong, I have multiple bolt actions with synthetic stocks and a matte finish (Savage Axis, Remington 700 PSS and SPS, and a Mossberg 100ATR), but all my lever guns are blued or stainless and wood except for a Rossi 22 which has a gold receiver.

If that's what somebody wants, and they sell well, why not? Be pretty boring if we all liked the same stuff.

I'm curious about recoil management with lightweight furniture in a 45-70, heck even the 44 mag.

I heard about it, but haven't seen one until now.

I like good old fashioned wood furniture. I will pass on this "black" version. Just not for me.

It seems this is a bit of a trend. I was looking at Browning’s X Bolt Speed SP the other day and you can only get it in camo and a synthetic stock. In addition to some long range functionality, some hunting rifles definitely have a sniper or AR vibe. I guess this might be useful in case you get into a firefight with an elk! 😂

I can see why some like these offerings, but particularly for a classic like the 45-70, I prefer the traditional stocks in wood or even laminate. I have an XLR that I have been carrying this week hunting and it has become my favorite timber gun.

While I poke fun at such a configuration, I do see where this may appeal to younger shooters. That we increase our number is paramount, Ruger sees that as well. But.....from an old guy standpoint.....

Aluminum forearms are cold in winter.
Does the aluminum allow for quicker cooling of the barrel?
Weight is reduced.
Likely other attributes I can't see right now

But what this offering does tell me is that Ruger can produce models with 4 dovetails (no barrel bands)
The Italians have been cashing in on Americana for decades. It's about time for modern recreations of yesteryear.

I prefer wood furniture over plastic. I tried some Magpul stuff on my Rem 870 and went back to wood. I like the extra weight in the stock as a lighter stock seems to throw the balance of gun off.

Yes, I imagine it was a priority over a dead cartridge like the .35 Rem. I have come to understand that folks who hang out on forums are not representative of the majority. Younger folks do not do forums at all. And Ruger is already set up for .30-30. I did want to add a .35 Remington but I have decided I want a 336SS in the .360BH and I am willing to wait for it. Even as a reloader, the .35R no longer has an appeal for me.
