Why, why, why doesn't anyone know about Marlin 995's ?

I have owned one since Christmas of 1985. I have killed countless squirrels, rabbits, possums, racoons, armadillos and even a few coyotes with it. It is very reliable as long as it is kept reasonably clean. It is very accurate with just about any ammo. About the only thing I don't like about it is that you can't use a "real" scope mount on it due to the receiver being grooved and made of aluminum. I have really enjoyed mine and it has always been more accurate than friends' stock Ruger 10/22s.

I dont really know what info. you are looking for mate.

My understanding is that the 995 is another variety of the clip/magazine semi-auto and as such shares much of its spec. with the current 795, which is the one I have.

I think the 995 was available with both wood and synthetic stocks, certainly early models lacked the LSHO, of the later ones.
I have seen them for sale here in the UK with wood and synthetic stocks, with blued and stainless finishes.

This link should take you to the generic owners manual, which should help.

If you have problems with scope shuffle, this is considered an effective and inexpensive solution.

Hope this stuff helps, Peter. :)

I too have owned a 995 since I moved to the "country" in 1985. It too has dispatched many varmints and punched a lot of holes in paper over the years. My 995 has no LSHO and is limited to 7 rounds in the mag. The walnut stock is beautiful. great trigger; very accurate. A terrific bargain for the price ($110). I paid eaxactly the same amount last June for my 795 and am just as pleased with it. The only problem I face now is periodic stovepipes. I intend to replace the extractor/ejector/springs. The only other repair required was to replace the buffer after 10-15 years.

It certainly CAN use a REAL scope mount; a real 3/8" (.22/airgun) mount! Mine currently has a BSA Sweet 17 scope on medium rings. On my 795 I drilled the rings and receiver for the stop (It had a BIG BSA airgun scope on it, and would move).

The 995 is one of the precursors to the 795.

Previous to that they had the 70/70HC.

Basically, to cut down on confusion with the 70-P papoose & show a change to LSHO, they changed the name.

Not to bring up an old and probably dead thread, but I bought a Marlin 995 today. After running about 200 rounds through it I am happy with my purchase.
BUT
I noticed it does not have LSHO and was informed that this meant it was an older model, which has led to SEVERAL hair pulling hours on the net trying to find a serial number to date conversion!
I found a few and put the first two numbers in and it said no good. I can not find any "Letter codes" but if I enter the LAST two digits from the serial I get 1977 from one site and "Incorrect data" from another site...

The data that I referenced shows that the 995 was manufactured from 1979-1994. Since the LSHO came out in 1985, that would put yours somewhere between 79-84.
What are the first two numbers of the serial #?

Hey Marvlin, I see you are in the Pacific Northwest also I'm in Dallas Oregon and an avid Marlin guy. I just picked up a really 995 this morning while prowling around a couple gun stores. What are you referring to with the term LSHO? Have a great evening, Ken

"LSHO" = "Last Shot Hold Open" In a nutshell it means that the bolt is locked open after the last shot is fired. There is a small lever on the left hand side of the trigger guard to release the bolt after a fresh magazine is inserted.
