Thank you for sharing, that is a fine rifle with special order features. At first glance I was doubting the select wood, considering that most customers would have ordered the pistol grip stock when upgrading wood. The grain in your picture of the forend does indeed look "select". I would not like to speculate on value, but in any case you have a rare piece of American history. How is the condition of the bore? That is going to be huge, as many of the custom order items are on it.

Again, super nice rare rifle, can we see a picture of the buttplate? The reasons I ask are: I do see special figure in the buttstock also, the s/n would be after the use of the 1st style crescent steel, hard rubber would have been common to regular production units, options would have been available. Very interesting and exciting tool that was enjoyed a lot, presumably by the original owner. The family history, especially if it goes back to ordering it is over the top.

Okay, very exciting, that is the later style steel buttplate. Great that the bore looks great. Now how about the swivel studs, factory, or added? Love for the experts on here to wiegh in.

One more thing from me, then hopefully a bunch from the real experts. Shoot only standard velocity cartridges, the bolts break near the front when subjected to high velocity .22.

Nice 97! It was common before the war to add a Maxim silencer to 22s, I have a Winchester with the same. The 28” barrel was extra, the sights are special order as the upgraded wood. The hard rubber buttplates were standard on the 97, in old catalogs it says you could change butts to the metal at same price. The crescent was standard on the 92. The 1/2 oct. was same price as oct. as stated above, only use standard Velocity ammo!!!!
