Help and information required please. I am looking to buy a 39a for target/range use. OK I want another marlin, I have field .22rf rifles for small game/vermin use. I am looking on gun trader this side of the pond and my smith is also looking. I see a Mountie version but don't know the difference, Also it has to be a JM marlin the serial numbers are also a little confusing. Any help and information would be gratefully received, thanks Gareth.

Gareth, if you fancy a day out have a drive up to Portsmouth and buy that one from Portsmouth Gun Centre. Looks a nice bit of timber as well.

Aren't all 39A's real Marlins? I thought production stopped well before the Remington buy out.

Also the rifle in the link is half what they cost here after converting pounds to dollars.

Gar, you said Guntrader, dont forget Gunstar. I often see guns on one, but not the other. Another option is to keep an eye on auctions. That can be a great way to grab a bargain. Two to keep an eye on are Southams, one went today, and Holts. Thier catalogue goes on line in a few days and the sale is in a month. I often visit both and would be happy to check any guns for you. Something I used to do on a bigger scale for forgien corporate or Gov purchases. Called a condition report.

Seven Marlins in todays sale...

For THAT price, I’d be on it like white on rice!

In reality.... All the model 39A rifles were made in North Haven, Conneticut, factory and are real JM Marlins.
Remington made only a few, very expensive ones.
The most common configuration is the 24 inch round barrel, and the pistol grip stock. These are easier to find and can be purchased usually less expensive than the Mounties. I have 4 now, as I was buying them up before the 2020 price insanity hit. Great rifles all around,
