New to the forum, so a quick hello first of all.

This past week I had a mishap with my 1947 Marlin 39A. A family member was trying to take it down and they ended up busting my stock pretty bad. I had a local gun shop do what they could, but unfortunately they just glued it. I need to find a replacement or have this one redone. I have searched to no avail for an original but keep coming up short. Anyone have any suggestions?

I spoke with Boyd's, but I would like to keep it close to original with a Marlin stock. Boyd's offers some nice options, but they are not the same shape as the original.

Welcome to Marlin Owners from NE Indiana.

Finding a different 1947 stock will take time. The price of used guns has risen to the point where for some guns it is not worth buying a gun to part out.

One will turn up eventually. In the meantime let the shop work their magic, you may not want to replace it.

A 336 receiver end is larger than a 39. Its not true that they are the same. I tried that once. IMO the stock will never be as it "could" have been by a competent gunsmith. Once the glue has been put into the crack you would have to re-break the stock in 2, gouge out all the glued areas up to the crack face then re-fit the sections with epoxy. That would get you as close to a hair line joint as can be done. Otherwise, its a crack fill job and re-sand everything down. Another so call "gunsmith" job with no clue, too bad.
