It's gotta be that superduper awesome lead slinging ultra rare vintage model. Jokes aside I would love to see a pic of that, and hopefully learn about something I have never seen before myself.
Well....bought it. No pics cause it's NJ and I have about a ten day wait. Marlin Marauder in 35 rem. Silver lever and barrel bands, gold trigger. Very good condition for a 1964 gun. Looks like it was in a safe for 60 years. 595.00
Golphin-altho I could not do a close inspection, my guess is you are correct, it is nickel-however the bands and lever look OEM and correct. Wondering if someone just had them nickel plated? I dont know enough about mettalurgy to even guess-
I love all you guys, but stripped, polished, etc.would not last long. If it was done correctly it's plated. I would suspect Shiney chrome, but could be nickel or hard chrome, I would just need to see it to say anything more.
Wish we could see pics. Anyway, a Marauder was never catalogued with the bling the OP states. However, he got it at a very good price despite the molestation. A true original Marauder is in the $2K camp in nice condition. I would be returning that back to original ASAP. Here is my original Marauder. Stock is stamped with same serial number as the rest of the rifle.
It is called a Marauder. There are a lot of clones out there. The genuine article has an "W, Y, or Z" prefix. The front barrel band is in front of the sight. 5856 were manufactured. 35% (2050) were chambered in .35 Remington. The silver plating is not original and hurts the rifle's value. They are loud and have a hefty recoil.
I completely disagree with this statement.
I have a mid 70's 336 in 35R that I had cut to 16.5", it is no louder than my 20" model.
I also don't feel it has any more recoil than the longer barreled one using the same loads in the two.
Yes If it is nickel plated that is easier to remove than chrome plating. You could also look for a factory replacement lever and band. Gun Parts would be a good place to start looking. There are tons of 336 parts available.
Well, for the price the OP paid for a modified Y prefix .35, I don't appreciate you bringing the average price for one of these down, since I have owned one for about 1/5 of its life. Congrads on your purchase, nonetheless. I believe that the value of an unmodified one in good condition is well north of $2k.
It won't be too difficult to just replace the Silver Barrel Bands, screws and lever to Original Blued parts.
I have shortened several 336s to trapper length barrels....the front band needed a slight reaming on the inside of the barrel hole to fit....due to the taper of the round barrel
Enjoy
Congrats on your "new" rifle! Looking forward to some pics.
My "Marauder" is a Marlin 444. The 24" barrel was shortened to 16.5" by a previous owner. It carries and shoots like a dream. I'm sure you will love your Marauder.
