Marlin Folks,

I was in a gun store today and ran across this model marlin. What are they worth? Its a 336 TK with straight stock and half magazine tube rifle. It looked almost new and was shorter maybe 16 in barrel? It had a front sight but the front sight had no place for a hood. It has the safety and was in near new condition with minor handling marks on the stock. They had it for $329. Is that a good deal on this rifle or whats the story on this particular model?

Thanks,

Shudy

Re: Marlin 336 TK 30-30

In this day and time that is a good price but I would offer 250 and see what happens. The Marlin 30TK(not 336) was a contract gun for Kmart only sales from 1988 until 1990. As said the K is for Kmart and the T is for Texan which means a straght grip carbine. I bought one new in 1989 for 179.99 and it is my go to rifle and I have 25 or so Marlin lever guns. It is by far my favorite for every day use. The barrel is 18.5 inches long. They are amazingling accurate. In fact mine is the most accurate 30-30 I have out of 6. It is also the lightest and easiest to carry all day. I wasn't real crazy about the birch(instead of walnut) stocks but they are OK. One of my horses broke mine shaking herself as it hung from the saddle horn so I replaced my stock with a new walnut stock.

I have seen a couple bring close to 400 bucks on the auction sites and that is plus shipping. They are semi rare and don't show up to often so if you like the gun you best run on back down there and fetch it home with you.

I may have to go back and try and work some deal on it then. When I shouldered the rifle it was such a good feeling rifle. I dont hunt with a 30-30 but prefer my 336 in 35. Although I do have some nephews that might could use it and it seems this rifle could do double duty as home defense. I'll get back with you guys and thanks for the info.

Re: Marlin 336 TK 30-30

just before Christmas I bought a TK from Gunbroker for $302 plus shipping and transfer. A 2nd one just sold on GB in the last week or so for $307 plus shipping and transfer. A third was on GB and its starting price was $300.

So the $329 price is probably fair going price. But as always try to get is cheaper.

BTW: The more I handle that little 30TK, the more I want to cut my 35 Rem down!

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that it stiil had the original sticker on the forearm and appeared to be unfired. It only had minor handling marks. I have never owned a 30-30 but I am seriousily debating getting this one if I can get it cheaper.

I seen a 336C 35 Rem sell on Gunbroker while back that had been cut to 18.5 and it was sweet. It brought over 400 bucks. I bid on it a while but had to quit. It really looked sharp with the short barrel and full mag tube. Think I will get me one for the cut down one day myself.

Go get that TK and never sell the 30-30 short. They are fine hunting rounds.

If you don’t want it post the address of the gun shop and I am sure that there are some members on here that would be interested. This is a couple that are on gun broker. The winning bidder will have to pay FFL fee and shipping. You would be getting a good deal.

Re: Marlin 336 TK 30-30

There is a person on the trading post that is specifically looking for a 30TK. If you are not going to buy it, you may at least consider giving that fella a PM and let him know where he can get one!

After getting a 30TK for my daughter and handeing it. I definately will be making myself a pistol grip shorty in 35 Rem! It is just a matter of time.

Thanks for all the advice. I will, Lord willing will go monday and try and make a deal. If I cant I will give the address and phone number to the store that has it. I am thinking of making this my home defense and farm rifle. It is such a great feeling rifle.

Out of all my Marlins the 30TK is the one I reach for almost every time I leave the house. I farm and raise cattle for a living so it sees duty every day here. It either rides along in the truck, on a tractor, or horseback wherever I go.

You will not regret getting this one.
