I'm new to the forum, and like the sight very much! Can someone give me any background and or experience about a marlin 336 sporting rifle in 35 remington with a 24 inch barrel and a 2/3 magazine tube?I let one slip through my fingers at a gun show recently and hav'nt been able to shake off the regret;as I am a serious fan of marlins owning a 1894 S;1894 P;1895 G;and a 39a.I thought I had seen or held about all that marlin has, however this one was new to me;and am eagerly searching for another.

What you saw was a model 336A; this model was produced from 1948-1962, then reintroduced for a while during the 1970's in 30/30 caliber only with the exception of 1973 when it was also chambered in 35 Rem.
The model 336A was chambered in 30/30, 35 Rem, and 32 Win special; but the most common caliber is 30/30 Win. Marlin also made a deluxe version of this model called the 336A-DL, which had several features not found on the standard model; but is most easily recognized by it checkered wood stocks. The fanciest ADL models were produced from 1957 to 1962; and if you review some previous posts you will find pics and detailed comments regarding the differences in features from the production periods and models.

Here is the 336A. This is a 1973 gun in 35 Remington.

And here is a comparison of a 336C, 336SC and 336A

You should definitely get a 336A in some caliber to add to your collection.

Here's another 336A in .35 Remington, but from 1951.

And, for comparison, a 1954 336SC also in .35 Remington.

And a 1974 336C in .30-30. The see-through rings have since been replaced.

Look under my avatar. Did I mention my very mean guard dog and my wife who always shoots first and asks questions afterward? She wanted to put notches on her shotgun stock, but, if she did that, there'd be no stock left at all. I'm the peaceable one in the family. [EVIL GRIN] ;D ;D ;D ;D

ridgerunner33, Welcome to MO. Glad to have you with us and enjoy. Lots of folks here with lots of knowledge on Marlins. It is evident from your post that you have contracted Marlinitis and that it was before you found your way to MO. Again, welcom and enjoy yourself, take care, John.
