You have a kindred spirit in Puerto Rico. I think my 20" 1897 Texan is the prettiest of all Marlins. Followed by my 20" Mountie and 20" 1894SS! (Psst, I LIKE the shorter barrels!)

Got a nice marlin 1897 texan, 20 inch octagon barrel and a strait grip . Any other lucky owners out there?

I have one. Love it. One day I walked into a little old gun shop and I spotted the gun . At that time I didnt know what a texan was. My eyes just zoom in to any small lever gun on a shelf. At first I thought it was a henry from a distance and then when the salesman said it was a marlin texan and handed it to me I said WOW this feels nice. Being a marlin junkie I couldnt get my hand into my pocket and on my money fast enough. I took three boxes of rws subsonic ammo (my favorite ammo for squirrel hunting) and headed up to the cabin. It was a fine fall day and with my new texan it was total bliss.

 

If only Marlin made a stainless steel version of the 1897 Texan... Shazzzam!

 

The only thing better is having one and shooting it in The Great State of Texas. Love it!

 

The big company decision makers should be more open minded to what people want. Gun store shelves would be much more interesting. A stainless Texan would be nice.

 

I got one that is sitting next the my 1897 Cowboy. ;D Not sure which one I like better.

 

Do any of u know how many 1897 Texans they made?got my first marlin not long ago its a 1897 Texan 22s,l,lr only shot 1 tube through it so far should I shoot it or put it up

 

Shoot it! Rifles are meant to be shot. I am a somewhat eclectic collector, but everything I have has been shot by me. I recently passed on a 30-40 Krag in fair condition because ammo is not available in Puerto Rico.
My 1897 Texan is in excellent condition because I baby it, not because it hasn't been shot. And yours is no longer "New-in-box, never been shot."

But hey, it's your rifle...

I had an 1897 Texan until my wife shot it! I get to feed and clean it now! I like the way it handles better than my 1951 39a did, the Texan stayed the 39a lives elsewhere now.

I own and shoot a 1897 Texan as well. It is the little sister to my 1897 Cowboy. Both are great rifles that I shoot and lovingly care for. They will become family heirlooms one day.:biggrin:
