Hello! I have a 1894M 22 Magnum that my dad bought new in the 80s. Wanting to get a value on this rifle and some history on it. The rifle has been used but not abused. I understand it may be rare? Thanks!

Allums,

Welcome to the forum! You'll have to take the time to post really good and detailed photos if you want any realistic value estimations. Do you still have the original box, paperwork, original receipts? All of those make a difference. Used but not abused - that description is as broad as the east is from the west! Rare is an oft overused term in regards to our firearms and lever guns in particular. Your 1894 is not really rare (in my humble opinion) - but there are not a lot of them out there for sale today. Get those photos up and show us what you've got - folks here are friendly and helpful but really need some detailed photos to generate some real discussion.

In NC an 1894M in 90% or better condition will generally bring $750-900.

Thanks for the quick replies! The rifle has a couple light scratches but is mechanically in great shape and the blueing is fine. I was just curious about it. Thinking about trading it for a Browning BLR .308. That was my dads favorite rifle before it was stolen and I would like to get him another one. Thanks again!

You've got one of about 12000 that were made over 2-3 years. I've only ever seen one and I bought that. Some of the posters here have multiples, apparently they were more popular where they are or were extremely lucky. The rifle is overly large compared to the contemporary Winchester offerings and has few components in common with the centerfires, so no real advantage in production. When I was growing up, a .22 was either a barn gun or a kid's gun and no one much wanted to spend extra for a .22 WRM, either for gun or ammo. A premium priced .22 rimfire was kind of an alien concept. So that particular model didn't really sell well at the time. Now, they're a pretty hot item and there's substantial collector interest because of the short run. You may not be able to swap yours even up for a new BLR, at least at a dealer's, but you'd have the better part of payment on one, more if you find a good used one.

As far as what it's worth, depends on condition and what you've got to go with it, like box and papers, hammer extension, original bill of sale. Probably $700-750 for a well used specimen on up to 4 figures if it was NIB with all papers, stickers and accessories. Really, about the only way to get a current value is haunt the auction sites and see what current offerings sold for.

Good luck with it!

I'm also interested to see what they are worth. I have one new in box with original owners manual still tied to lever and original box. Never been fired is a 1894m and 1984 build date
