My .357 Cowboy prefers 180 gr. cast or jacketed (It took a great deal of time to get to that "Final Answer!"). It does fairly well with 158 gr. jacketed, but if I shot cast at that weight my target looks more like a buckshot pattern!

 

Those are a nice looking pair. You are lucky to have them. The Burris Mini scopes are perfect for those rifles. I bet those are a blast to shoot.

 

Looks like a nice one, congratulations. I had its big brother the 1894P but sold it a few years ago before prices went crazy. Saw another one a few months ago at a gun store and they wanted over $2k for it. Too much for me but someone eventually bought it. Here's a catalog photo showing both models:

I've got a nice Marlin Model 1894 .357 Magnum carbine made in 1980 in nice shape. It has an 18 inch barrel. I don't have a scope on it and haven't shot it for years. I need to take it out and check accuracy like you have done. These are really nice Marlin lever action rifles.

 

Have had a 357 ported for over 25 years. Got robbed on the price. Had to give 400 for it but was like new shot 5 times.

 

I found mine on another forum, $325? IIRC. Daughter bought one for her husband somewhat higher. I've seen one other in real life in a gun store. With I'd had bought it at $400. As well as any and all cowboy models.

 

Have to ask, always wondered, what is the point of the ports on the 357?

 

Probably none, but since they ported the 45-70, 450, 444, 44 Mag, and 35 Rem, they probably said why not! Surprised the never did a 30-30.

 

Nice! If you have to go with a scope, I like your choice. I went to a Skinner peep sight as I like the lighter weight and getting rid of the bulk of a scope.

 

Chiming in late, but now that I know a forearm end so .357 exists I may have to consider selling my 1894C. It’s the last of my barrel band marlins
