I had the good fortune of finding both a vintage Lyman tang sight and in finally ordering an MVA.
The Lyman will be for 1893 32-40 I've started working with.
The MVA base will fit both the 1893 32-40 and my 1894 32-20, or so I'm told by Cheryl at MVA.

Mike Maracini, (who specializes in rebuilding vintage Marbles tang sights) gave me 8-40s when he rebuilt a Marbles for the 1894.

In talking with Cheryl, I found it of interest that they (MVA) shows different size screws for a Marlin Model 1893 (9-40) than for the 1894 (10-32).

I tried the tang screws from my 1894 and they finger screw into the 1893 easily. The beveled part of my calipers show .1585-.159 for the screws I in both rifles.

At the least I need to tell MVA what size plug screws I have in the 1893. Any insight would be appreciated.

I think my Marlin 1893 front tang screw is #8-40 ,I have gone thru the replacement screw size thing a few times now, also for Winchesters, and unfortunately there is many different sizes of threads for replacement tang screws, and errors on Brownells, and Marbles sites further complicate matters trying to fit screws

If you would buy a new gun once in a while you wouldn't have this problem. :flute:

Don't forget we need pictures of those guns with their new sights when they get mounted.

Thanks Gentlemen, Really appreciate the input. I'm on the highway beaded North now... Had I timed the trip/MVA order better I could have picked up the sight in person and saved postage. going right by their place - but on a Saturday. I owe them a call on the screws and your input helped!

BFPGW... I posted picks of this one on Wind's hyphenated picture thread - limited to the iPhone for a month or so - so more pictures will be beyond me.

Many Thanks to you all - the highway calls!
