Interesting piece...

Still has that 'safety' but I guess one could put a saddle ring there and replace it. Why?

Saw the show 'North Woods Law' once where a Maine Game Warden got a Moose tag. He had a 45/70 Marlin..

Well this huge Moose came out just 75 yards away. He aimed and there was a 'click'. Aimed again after thumbing the hammer and.. 'click'.

Levered a new round in and.. 'click. Then he saw he still had the safety on.

Lucky that Moose was not in the mood to stomp him in the ground!

Still I see it's a dandy size piece. Sort of a Marlin Marauder on steroids.

But I would get rid of that rail and just have a Skinner on the back.. but that is just me. I figure with 16.17" barrel it is not gonna be a 300 yard gun anyway. More like a woods gun 100 - 150 yards that will kill anything you meet in North America!

If I really hanker for it I have the dies, slugs, and brass.. I can load up 5 dummy rounds and go to the LGS and see if it is fully reliable..

Patience.. it is not like I'm going to Alaska anytime soon!

I learned to handle a lever action rifle well before any safety showed up.
I've used both my Marlin 45/70 and 30-30 CB for years without my safety on.

In my early years of teaching hunter safety, several of us instructors would walk the students through unloading a lever action Marlin properly and safely. We would load an empty case into the chamber. The case had a primer seated in it. Every student took a turn and we ALL would see who didn't pay attention how to safely release a cocked hammer down to a safe position.

The safety would be good to use for unloading, other than that I don't bother with them on my Marlins.
To each their own I guess.....

Ah the safety, one of my favorite topics. Marlin started putting a safety on there rifles in 1983, 42 years ago now, just over 2 biological generations ago. Can’t blame Hillary, can’t blame Obama, I guess you can blame Reagan if you’d prefer. If you haven’t adjusted to using a safety you do not shoot as often as you think you do, or if you consistently forget to turn the safety to “fire” then you don’t know your firearm and should not be shooting.

I like all the stuff Marlin is putting out right now, but please please please can we get some 45 Colt? If An 1894 SBL in 45 Colt is released I’m gonna disappoint Dave Ramsey something fierce.

I like the safety for unloading although you can unload most of the new Marlins through the loading gate. Otherwise the safety notch in the hammer works just fine.

I want something from Marlin in .45 Colt. In a perfect world I’d have a 16“ or 18” barrel with walnut furniture. In this world, I’ll buy whatever 1894 they produce in .45 Colt!

Proof positive you can bastardize even the classics.
