I’ve been playing around with my 336a and loading some different loads with the ftx bullet and the lever evolution powder... groups have been ok and I was gonna xjust leave what I’ve worked up as my go to load... got a little board and felt like Messing around with my gun a little and I didn’t have any reloads ready and I didn’t want to shoot my factory ammo so I was thinking I’ll load up 5 rounds with 4895 and the ftx bullet... set a target out back at 50 yards and shot 5 rounds at .620”... i was pretty happy... I just may have to add a couple more pounds of that to my stash... I think I might give RL15 a try next

I use a lot of IMR-4895 but not in 30/30. I use it in 243 & 308 and have for years. If you have any you might want to try IMR-3031 or
4198 they have done well for me in this class of cartridge with bullets of 150gr and heavier. I have used some Winchester ball powders for 130gr and smaller in 30/30 and they did better than IMR powders. Tried some IMR-4064 once, I think for 170gr and didn't have good results. I've done a lot of fooling with 30/30. Most of it was geared at lighter bullets to use on groundhog.

That is the same as the Famous Papajohn .30-30 Pet Load of 2.2 cc IMR-4895.

When it comes to the 4895 powders I prefer the H4895 because of Hodgdon's formula for reduced loads for any cartridge that shows it as a viable powder in the Hodgdon's reloading data. I find that as convenient feature of the powder. Also I believe that the Hodgdon powder is more temperature tolerant; but I don't know that to be fact.

I use H4895 for a lot of stuff. Originally started using it because it produced quite a bit of velocity at lower charge weights than most powders. Numerous hunting loads shot well, so I just kept going to more calibers. It seems near-ideal for 30-30 especially considering the wide range of published data and power levels.

I have been using 4895 for at least 42 years, maybe longer. it is one of the best powders ever made! I always try it in any "new to me" rifle I get if it is applicable to the caliber. it was used in the 30-06 and 308 military match loads for years.
