Looking at 2 different pump action rifles.

Henry pump action in 22 Winchester Magnum

Or..

Remington Pump Action 22 lr.

Leaning towards the Henry because it comes in 22 Magnum.

Opinions????

Having owned Henrys and Remington .22s and magnums I'd go with the Remington. I found the Henrys I had were nice rifles but they weren't accurate enough for what I wanted. They look and work fine but if they don't put a bullet where you want it to go its just a noise maker. I saw a Remington pump in 22Mag. yesterday at the Macon, Ga. gun show for about $350.00. I was looking for a Remington pump in 22lr so I passed this one. It was an older model. I forget what model # it was but it;s the pump that looks alot like the Remington Speedmaster auto. Older Remingtons are nice rifles. Much better than the junk they are producing now.

Would that be called the 572 Fieldmaster? I have the 552 Speedmaster (auto-loader)... very nice .22 S/L/LR rig.

FWIW,,,, I have the Henry Frontier (lever action) with the same octagon barrel that the pump action wears.
It's by far the most accurate 22WMR I've ever owned.
I highly recommend the Henry rifles, but stay away from the little carbines if ya don't like plastic. Not that they aren't nice little guns at a very fair price,,,, I just can't come to grips with plastic parts on my rifles.

personal preference here, but i would go with remington.

i dont have any experince with henry but just looking into them right now, on henrys web page they claim the older henry rifles( in the bottom left corner talking about abe lincons rifle) then claiming everyone should have one in their collection(i took it as refering to the modern rifles in the history page at the bottom).

That right there means i will not ever purchase them. I have heard nothing but good things for the most part about them but dont like companys trying to take credit for stuff they shouldnt. not right in my opionion. good luck with your choice, and that was my 2 cents. look forward to the pics no matter the choice btw.

I don't understand your concern... Henry (today's company) purchased the rights to Henry (yesterday's company). They purchased the bragging rights of days old. Their work today will determine their destiny for tomorrow's tales of "yesterday".

chears. good luck with your decision. not goinng to distract from your thread.
I'd say you already have.
That's a pretty limp wristed attempt at bashing a company you admittedly know nothing about IMO.

Henry rifles are a fair priced American Made rifle. And while not quite on par with older Marlins or Winchesters, they are very accurate, and they stand behind them. Of course, that's just my real world experience from actually owning one, so what do I know?
Man, I love the internet. ::)

X2 on Charlie's comments....

I've 3 Marlin Lever Actions, but I also have the Frontier model Henrys in 22LR (H001T) and 22Magnum (H001TM). I've been delighted with the 22LR, and also enjoy the 22Mag. Both are "minute of a quarter" shooters at 100yards with pretty much any ammo. I cannot say the same with the Marlins... One of which took months of load testing dozens of combinations to find ammo that would yield a 2" group at 100yards.

I did have an issue with the 22Mag right out of the box, but Henry made it right and paid for shipping in both directions. I've a couple buddys that have the round barrel carbine versions and while they seem to be just as accurate, I definitely prefer the looks and handling of the Octagon barrel Frontier models. They are very good gun for the money, IMO.

sorry for the confusion about my statement earlier, it came out wrong.
I have had nothing but good to say about Henry when i have shot their firearms.
I have heard nothing but good about them.
Their customer service when someone had something wrong with their gun is supose to be first rate.
the issue i have is with their site, nothing that reflects on their guns.
I have had nothing but good to say the remington rifles i have shot also.

It seems to come down to do you want 22lr, or a 22mag?

hope this clears it up.

Only thing plastic on them is the front sight and barrel band. A phone call to Henry will get you steel replacement parts asap if that is of concern. I have both the 22 LR and the 22 Mag and both are excellent little guns that are more accurate than I can shoot.

True
I'm just a neanderthal when it comes to plastic. That's why I bought the frontier model.
And please don't think I was trashing on the carbines, because I wasn't.
As a matter of fact,I think the little 22LR carbine's one of the best values out there.

I'd go with the Henry if you want the mag... being a long time member of RFC, I know Henry makes a solid rifle and their customer service is top notch. The president of the company often posts over on RFC if someone has an issue. I have never read a post from any other president of a major firearms manufacturer over there. I mean come on... the President? ;) Good luck.

Never thought that for a second...........simply pointing out there really isn't that much plastic on them. I do understand that there are those that don't like the plastic and I myself would prefer all steel parts but it doesn't concern me that much. Sure are a lot of fun to shoot though aren't they.

Not to my experience or any of my friends. Plus their lifetime warranty would have put the company under if that was true.

You bettcha.
I love the ten round capacity too, because I take mine with when I'm hunting Cats with my Cur Dogs.
With all the leashes, first aid stuff,, tracking equipment, Shock Collars, etc., etc., the last thing I need is to have to remember ammo. LOL
I just wish I could afford one of the pump action's too, and would probably figure out a way if they'd make it in 32cal or 25/20.

I have both the 22 mag and a 22 lr Henry lever. The mag is one of my favorite guns and is my daily use ranch rifle. It is reliable and is accurate enough for anything that I need to do with a 22. Longest headshot on squirrel is 60 yds. anything larger is DRT. I liked it so well that I bought a 22 lr so I can afford to play at the range. The maggie is purely for hunting. I may end up with a Henry pump one of these days, too. Just need to come up with a reason to have one. Buy the Henry.

My Henry 22 mag lever gun is darn accurate 4 shots at 50 yards in one ragged hole about 30 caliber size with one flyer less than a half inch from the main group which I know I pulled. This was with CCI FMJ ammo.
