Great day with my 38-55 today!

I was starting on chickens in the second relay and relay one was knocking them down often so the pressure was on. Hit all my chickens and all my pigs and any time that happens you are thankful and set up for a great day. Still a lot of shooting to do, and more match pressure. I was feeling pressure but managed a great eight turkeys! Now all the pressure was gone. I may have been too relaxed on rams. Shot only six,but it still adds up to 34,one point from a master score.

Nicely done! NRA Cowboy Silhouette was always impossible for me because I never practice my offhand shooting at those ranges lol. Still extremely fun to get the occasional 200M ram, even if God had to guide my bullet personally to prevent my from missing all the targets on that stage lol.

Also noticed a lot more interesting guns at cowboy silhouette events than I do at cowboy action matches. Made for fun conversation.

Awesome. Well done.
I'm shooting a 357Mag at the moment for Pistol Cartridge silhouette but need to get my own 38-55 revved up for some 200 mtr Rams. It's a 1999 336CB with 24" octagon barrel.
Care to share any load data?

Sure, for the 38-55 I use Starline brass, 10gr of BE-86, and 240gr cast plain base Rimrock. In pistol cartridge I use a .32s&w long with Starline brass, 2.1 gr of titegroup and a cast 98gr round nose flat point, and am convinced that most shooters are way overpowered in pistol cartridge.

I still have a little over 4 lbs. of unique.
I'll keep an eye out for some BE-86, be neat to run some side by side.

Well, I have not run them side by side per say, but I switched from one to the other pretty seamlessly, no sight changes and very similar velocity. The main annoyance is that I have to wipe each cartridge down well or a matalic film will be left on the fired cases, presumably from the flash regarding property of the new powder.

Good discussion on the game and loads! I normally shoot a 30-30 but have put together a Win 92 357 that shoots 200g cast lead spit wads. Takes rams just fine with great accuracy without the recoil and muzzle blast.

PC rifle is 128 yr old 92 in 25-20. I’ve learned how to cast my own and a subsonic 86g NOE is shooting pretty good. It’s not match ready, but almost.

Excellent: that was with your load 10gr of BE-86, and 240gr cast plain base Rimrock ?

Not much going on in this section......this game is one of, if not the best way to enjoy our Marlin lever actions. One of my goals for this year was to shoot 100 lever action silhouette matches; I stand to make it Lord willing, but I have found that I was reinforcing bad shooting habits and am working on rectifying that with the help of fine offhand shots here, and on Rimfire Central. My 38-55 is so much fun to shoot, but I need to shoot tiny targets at high magnification to strengthen trigger control, shot sequence, and follow through. Have a great day. I am, I hit 9 rams today with no ringers.
