Ok.. you don't reload and your needing a box of shells for your 35 or 30-30 to go deer hunting. Your at the sporting goods store and all thats on the shelf ...... Federal blue box and Remington core lokts both in 200 gr. For the purpose of this post lets say they cost the same. Which one is going out the door with you and why? Just wondering about your thoughts....

i'm pretty sure the federal 35's are hotter than the rem's by a fair margin, and if i'm not mistaken, they're using the sierra 200gr rn or something awfully close to it, so it's a better than average pill--just not quite as well loved as the remington core-locts. in the 30-30's, i like the federal 125gr load, and the 150, but in the 170's i'd go remington. have't tried remmie 150's. just my two cents worth. hard to lose, with either.
mind yer topknot!

if they cost the same I'm taking a box of each, simply because both are proven superior performers that will strike well within 1" of my point of aim and get the job done; I would Fire 10 rounds of each to find where each performs at 'X' range in my rifle and make shots from there - BOTH will get the job done, however I have more experience with evidence of the Cor-Lokts consistent performance and would be very comfortable in choosing them not even knowing anything more beyond reputation for Federal's overall quality. In the end, dead is dead and both will return that result from a well placed shot. I shoot rem Cor-Lokt 150 gr for the most part but hunt with 170 g just for a little more ummph. However, I also have a box of fed fusion that I am itching to use.

So, I guess my either/or answer is useless now that I re-read it - ... as Emily Litella would say... "Never Mind" :alberteinstein::dontknow:

Let your rifle tell you which to stock up on. Try both and buy more of the one that shoots the best. Both will work very well. DP

core lokt. I try to avoid federal ammo (except hydra shoks in my defensive pistols) and all my load data for my 30-30 is worked up in remington brass as well. Sorted by weight and who cares about the lot number, I use a little lighter brass for 125grn lead plinkers and the heavier for my 170grn "hog stoppers".

It's been my experience that different guns like different ammo better; brand and type bullet. What shoots great in one, may be so-so in another. In the past I've bought a couple boxes of several brands and headed off to the range to compare results, and then stuck with that which shot/grouped best with a given rifle. Another consideration would be actual bullet choice performance on game. As a note, I've never seen a huge difference in an ammo choice later, but different ammo lots of the same brand can perform somewhat different too. When they mix up a big batch of powder for a manufacturing run it can vary some from the last batch as long as it falls within the tolerances a manufacturer sets, and I was advised years ago when buying ammo to check and get the same lot# listed on the boxes when sighting in/hunting for consistency. I guess it depends on how picky you are so to say, and why many hand-load to get consistent performance compared to a mass produced product.

In 35 the Remingtons, shot em more and know where they will hit. Which is whatever Im shooting at! That said Im thinking of doing some reloading maybe later tonight, tomorrow for sure. And have 60 200gr Fed Hi shoks that I pulled from three old factory boxes of 35 remington that the cases looked bad on. Gonna put 41grs of IMR 4064 behind them and see what happens.I know there good bullets for the ranges I shoot with peep sights.

all I've ever used is core lokts in my 30-06 other than reloads. I've shot core lokts in my 35 and it grouped well. I've got a buddy that loves federal blue box for all his guns. I've personally never shot federal. Some folks really like um. Not heard anything much bad about them.

For the .35 I would go to a different store that has Hornady LE 200 grain. For the 30-30 it would not matter to me because I only plink with my 30-30's. If you own a .35 it is the one you need to take hunting.

It's hard to beat the accuracy I get with Federal, and it looks like I'm not the only one.

They both work well in that application. No difference in performance. These factory rounds have taken a lot of deer, Elk and goat. Goat was in the Big Thomson Gorge, and had a tag. I had no idea that Goat was within a 100yrds. Just saw it out of the corner of my eye. Load was a Federal 30/30 170gr core-lock. Best piece of luck I have had with that Goat, some years back however. But the core-lock did its part and I did mine. Helped to be shooting my Marlin, I had planed to take my Savage 300 Win Mag for an Elk tag I also had.....Goat was wonderful.
