I'm looking at another SSA replica with a Birds head grip..........why?............ I have no Idea!

I've never handled or shot a pistol with that grip design.............

This one is a 357 Mag (357& 38's!!!) with a 4 3/4"barrel...........

What can you BHO's (Birds Head Owners) tell me about them?.............Pros?.......Cons??

Are they accepted in SASS shooting?...............How about that new Squadra Italiana club that rob42049 is startin' ?

Thanks,

Tom

Here's your Huckleberry. The Doc Holliday model from Uberti. Pimp your sixgun collection.

Edit add-on: Apparently Pietta is making BH models, too. Called 'Pony Express'. I saw them on EMF website. Turned down hammer, blue/CH or Stainless. Traditional 4 click action.

Yeah, those are beauties. I particularly like the Doc Holliday model.

Yes--it feels small but I guess for a small caliber smaller revolver it is okay---I think more for nostalgic purpose for Cowboy events.

Here's my Vaquero .45 ACP Bird.
It fits MY hand great(bigger than average).
Cheap to shoot and a lot of fun.
I have a single six, Python, 454 Alaskan, SBH, and more. I really enjoy shooting the bird the best.
Had a crossdraw holster made.......it's reasonably inconspicuous.

I now see there are two styles of Birds Head Grip frame shapes......One smoothly curved backstrap, and another with "horn" on the backstrap in the thumb/index finger area.......what's that all about?

I have a feeling I'm treading on shaky ground!!

Bassetman.............STOP tempting me!...........

My son in law is a 40 year old muscle man. He has a Ruger 45acp Sheriffs model. He likes 300gr cast bullets at warp speed. I've never liked it, but Annie has a Ruger Bearcat Shopkeeper that is a blast in 22LR.

There's some choices in hammers, too. The examples pictured display three different heights. There's a standard, a slightly lower, and one pistol had a really low hammer with a nice looking curve. It's a big market, lots of variety.

Tom,
I have a Ruger Vaquero in .45 ACP that is great fun (I also use the Cowboy .45 Special brass in it) and a Single Six Birdshead in .32 H&R (also much fun.) As suggested, handle one, but I have not found anyone who objects to the grip. As far as CAS, pretty sure they are legal, as a friend's wife uses 2 of the .32 H&Rs as her rig in CAS competitions (and does quite well!) .45 attached before and after grip change.

Well.................The itch is gone, and so is the rash!...............I decided I don't like the look or feel of the Birds Head grip...............I have no further interest.

Tom, as mentioned, they are not to everyone's liking. Good that you were able to "try-before-you-buy." They are made in 44 Mag...can't be much fun!

Davide Pedersoli makes a Doc Holliday bird's head. Their version is nickeled with a 4.2" barrel and walnut grip. Pedersoli went with the traditional four click action, but with a frame mounted firing pin, so the hammer face is flat. No hardened steel recoil shield bushing.
