I have had Pachmyer Decelarators fitted to my 45/70 and one of my 444's. They get my vote.

 

Almost any ventilated style recoil butt pad would solve your problem with recoil. None of my friends will shoot my 1895 Cowboy LTD in 45-70 because I left it stock with the solid butt plate. They keep telling me it whips them in the cheek. I guess I just got used to it and it don't bother me anymore. They say I'm numb !!
Actually my 500 Linbaugh pistol hurts more than the 45-70 Marlin. As one guy put it: "That Linbaugh hurts all the way down to the A-Hole".

 

I put on a one inch pad made for a shotgun. Works great.

 

Kick Killer Leather Lace up Recoil Pad from Cabelas is suppose to be a good one! Limb Saver "Black Rubber Recoil Pad" is What I have on my Ole H&R/NEF Single Shot 12ga "Works Great"!!!!

 

I have one of those slide-on rubber pads and ended up taking it off - didn't really cut down on the recoil so much, and it was ugly.

 

Since I don't shoot a 375 H&H Mag anymore--the regular recoil pad on the 444 Marlin works for me.

 

I have a Kick-Ezz grind to fit on my 1895GS. It is very effective at taming recoil. I also have a pachmyer decelerator on my 1895M 450 it does a descent job at taming recoil, but the Kick-Ezz is better in my opinion.

 

Another vote for the Simms.

 

If your not using a Limb Saver, you have wasted money, and didnt get the best recoil reduction.

Ive neutralized the nastiest of 45/70 loads on three different 45/70s.

My Buff Classic is pounding out 540gr paper patched boolits like its a 30-30

 

Has anyone tried using a mechanical recoil reducer like the Dead Mule brand in addition to a Limb Saver or similar?

 

My 2 "P's" came with ventilated pads that are as hard as concrete..........Uesless......But I got use to them and haven't changed them out. My stubby LTD-111 has a plastic butt plate. After about 6 shots with 400 gr. bullets I let it rest awhile.

 

I put pachmayr F325 vented recoil pads on both of my 444s, they do a good job and are not sensitive to cleaning solvents like the limbsaver pads are.

 

Recoil is your reminder of the fun you are having. I never did enjoy shooting a 30-30 as much as the bigger calibers. Maybe I am in the minority but I always just accepted recoil as part of shooting rifles.

 

I use Simms Limbsaver® slip on recoil pads son both of my 444 Marlin® rifles. OUTSTANDING RECOIL REDUCTION!!!!!

 

the limb saver that are made to fit are pretty close and help with recoil.
