Barrel Relining

Anyone had a Marlin barrel relined?
I have an 1889, in .32-20 WCF, that has a pitted barrel. Probably from a lot of black powder loads. There are a couple of outfits that do relining: I'm looking for some references.
Thanks all. This has always been a great forum for good information!

Have you shot your 1889 to see if it will group?

I have several rifles with what I consider extremely poor bores that group very well.

That said, if you’ve tried everything and it still won’t shoot a reline will be an option.

I’ve used John Taylor to reline a couple of my rifles, one of them was this Marlin 1893 in 38-55:

Before the reline it wouldn’t hit the target frame at 100 yards, groups could be measured in feet as opposed to inches.

Be advised that John Taylor’s work is not inexpensive.

ATCDoktor; I've put several boxes of Win. 100gr 32-20 ammo thru the 1889, in CAS. It shoots well enough to hit the "Cowboys" at that range, but the the bore is just too ugly pitted for me. I haven't put it to paper, very much, I just think the rifle deserves a little TLC in that department.
BTW, that's a nice looking rifle you have there.

I joined ten minutes ago and I am already lovin' this! I never thought of relining. I only have one 1893 that shoots bad enough that I would consider relining ( I think its my eyes that need the relining). I will have to ask Jason, my wizard gunsmith if it is worthwhile. But being from Ottawa, Canada, I doubt it would help any of you guys.

I have used Bob Hoyt a couple of times. He has relined two, rebored a couple and built a brand new octagon barrel for an 1894 for me. I have always been very happy with the work and the price. He is in Fairfield PA (near Gettysburg). If you want the phone number PM me.
He did a 25-20 for me. It shoots great.

With a reline you keep the original barrel, markings etc. You will not to have the barrel polished and blued either.

I don't know if these are available in CANADIA but I helped a buddy with a 32 rimfire, He could not find ammo either there is a guy on gunbroker that makes a reloadable 32 rimfire that uses an offset stud gun blank as the power source. Seat a healed bullet with a piece of wood and shoot. I know 25 brass is waaaay harder to find so not sure if anything of the sort is available for the 25 but something you might look into. As far as the magazine I am unsure of your issue as the 25-20 and 32-20 are the same basic case. I have several 25-20 cases made from 32-20 cases. Good luck.
