was starting to get cabin fever along with gas prices down decided to go on a little gun shop tour the other day. on the route were two shops i had never been to before. one was pretty new and the other i had learned of recently. first stop was the new one which had that new look, very clean and shiny. the problem with most shops is that not a lot of used stuff which is more to my taste. saw a couple interesting guns but none that "did it". so off to the second shop which i kinda had to find which in the end was easy. walked in and again a smaller but very tidy shop which was reflected in the prices. also bad timing as the big harrisburg show was on that weekend and the owner had gone, more than likely taking a majority of his used stock. well just about to walk out and spotted the row of marlin lever guns. like all of you it's not hard to find rows of 336's and some 1895's. well lo and behold the little shorty on the end was a 1894C - JM. i tried to hide the quiver in my voice as i asked to see the gun. couldn't see a mark on the wood, no marks on the metal other than from the action parts moving so trying to hide my grin. the ticket was a little steep but not crazy in todays 1894C market. i asked the lady if she had any wiggle room on the price and she said she would look in the book. she came back and said she could do $50 off. with a long slow drawl i said " i guess i'll take it". did the paper work, paid her and walked out with a warm fuzzy feeling. the grin is still there.
