A good friend just beat me to a model 989M2, for $45.00!!!!! It has no magazines with it. Does this take the same mag as the model 70's, 70 Papoose, or 989? He'd like to shoot it, but as a single shot it lacks, well firepower I guess. Hoping you folks can help.

I believe the model 70's magazines you speak of should work fine. Your friend got a great deal. Help him find some mags and maybe he'll let you shoot it!

In case anyone is still reading this thread...the nickel plated Marlin 10 rd clip mags work fine. I know because I have a 989M2 and they work fine in this and the other older clip mag Marlins like the 70 and 70HC. So, might as well buy the bigger capacity ones in my opinion because they, of course, are the ones for your 795 also.

Yerp, all Marlin 795 mags switch out with 989M2's...I've got both.
I also use the Champion 25-rd mags in it! :)

The only mag that doesn't work, the 15-rd National Magazine mags that Midway/Numrich sells...avoid those like the plague.

Virtually any magazine made for a Marlin Semiautomatic rifle will work in the 989M2. I have used the original 7-round mag, the new style 10-round mags and the Promag 25-round banana mag in my 989M2. They all fit and feed the rifle however I found the 10-round nickel-plated mags to be the most reliable with the fewest jams and misfeeds.

Made by Marlin, fits the Model 795. I don't know the part number but if it's made by Marlin and fits the Model 795 then it will work in your 989M2
