Sounds like your rifle was caught in the Remington transition period and didn't get the Marlin proof fire mark, even with the Marlin barrel address.

 

The guy I bought it from bought it about 2001-2003, so it shouldn't even be close to a Remlin...

 

I'm thinking that mine is about the same age as yours. I did a serial # search once and if I remember right, that's about the same time...

Ah, the rest of the story. That does muddy the water a tad.

 

Just a bit though, he was the original purchaser of the gun new.

 

Maybe your gun was the last one made on Friday of a holiday weekend.

 

Mine has the JM

 

I think the rimfires are hit and miss with the JM stamp. My 1988 model 25 is JM stamped, but my 2003 model 17VS has not stamp at all???
