back when I used to have AR's.... I was using 748 and still have some. Anyone seen that used for 45-70 ?
I have IMR4895, RL-7, 2400, 700X and unique. (and other powders too slow) wondering about 748.........

My records show that 748 and Hodgdon BL-C(2) are very near the same. So there is no reason why 748 would not shoot well in the 45-70. Remember, however, that burn rates change as applied to different calibers and different case shapes. The Speer Reloading Manual No. 13 on page 415 shows a minimum load of 58 grains of 748 in the 45-70 and 62 grains as maximum at near 1850 fps. That with a 400 gr. jacketed bullet in lever guns only.

Swany says he uses 57 gr and gets 1750 (405 gr lead)
My OLD speer #10 book lists a starting load of 58 gr and gives 1667 fps (400 gr speer jacketed flat point) -- max load 62 gr=1796
(the speer book loads are for marlin 1895... not for trapdoor... ------ another whole page for ruger#1 -- LOTS more powder ! )
old speer book also lists loads for 4064, H322, 4320, 4895, 3031, RE7, 4198 and 4759

Can someone confirm that RE7 is reloader 7 ???? they show a starting load of 48 gr=1710fps
I can take a photo ofthe page if that helps someone for doccumentation......

I will use my camera instead of my phone.... (to prevent a useless 1 kb picture ! )
