Read an article by Craig Boddington on the new 360 Buckhammer developed by Remington and Henry. I love the straight walls - so easy to reload; chamber easily and hit hard.
I was briefly taken by this new girl in town and then sanity struck. I already have six rifles in 375 Winchester that can do everything the new 360 BH can do and more. Not to mention a handful of 444 Marlins, a 44 Mag and 357 Mag.

If I lived or hunted in states mandating specs on legal cartridges for hunting, I would be all over the 360 BH as the 375 exceeds acceptable case length in some states. Since I don't, I'll stick with my old favorites.

Agreed, Russel. The 360Buckhammer is Remington's answer to the 350Legend only for Leveraction rifles. Not to mention, Henry encouraged Remington to do it for their Leveraction rifles to compete with AR15 sales in straight wall states. Minus straight wall restrictions keep your 30-30, 35REM and others you mentioned.

It looks like they created a 357 maximum maximum! Reminds me of the progression of the 45 Colt --> 454 Casull --> 460 Magnum. Now its 357 Magnum --> 357 Maximum --> 360 Buckhammer! I like it.

Agreed but I looked at Remington today and the prices! 35REM for $61.99 and 32SPC for $62.99 while 30-30 is $32.99.
Noted 32WIN is available but not 35REM. Been searching for a 336 SC in 35REM but I'm beginning to question whether that is a good idea. I reload so if I can get brass and bullets I'm good to go. I'm not about to pay $3.10 per round! Remington can keep them. Same goes for 32SPC.

Getting a tad concerned about the old tried and true cartridges being available, at reasonable prices.

Glad I bought a bunch of 30-30 in 2017 for around $15 to $17 a box.

Here's a cartridge a lot of people already forgot. Straight wall, fits the 1.8 inch criterion for those States, rim diameter compatible with lever and bolt actions, loaded ammunition, brass, and projectiles available. Case body the same diameter as the .338 Marlin. SAAMI max pressure 38,500 PSI. You don't hear much about the .450 Bushmaster anymore.

The acceptance of "straight" cases is interesting. The 360 Buck hammer is a shortened and blown out 32-40 as it uses the 30-30 basic case. Straight case in a 30-30 is closer to a 38-55. 45-70 is also a tapered case. And is a 47 caliber is cut down as in one revolver cartridge, the 475 Linebaugh. Length requirements in some states are designed to keep them from using cases long enough to hold enough powder to equal more potent longer-range cartridges. The 360 exceeds the 1.8" length requirement in some states. But one state that has that requirement has seen the development of a 358 bottleneck the Hoosier for Indiana. Interesting how ingenious hunter are for circumventing requirements.

We already looked into those published numbers on another MO 360 Buckhammer thread. The velocity and energy data was derived from using a rifle with a 24 inch barrel. When a 20 inch barreled Henry carbine prototype was tested in a gunrag article, the 200 gr 360 Buckhammer load averaged ~2,101 FPS MV. Basically, this is a straight wall clone of the 35 Rem. It will be a great cartridge for a straight wall hunting state, but I definitely don't need one.

Nice ballistics/trajectory numbers on 360 BHMR. As folks have already mentioned the 360 performs like a straight wall 35 Rem and 35 Rem is a great round. The 360 BHMR bests the 350 LGND and is on the heels of the 375 Win.

360 BHMR has less powder capacity than the 35 Rem with the same .358 dia Rem Core-Lokt bullets. Although less powder, the 360 BHMR gets to 35 Rem performance due to higher 50K pressure of 360.

360 BHMR, even though a slightly shorter and blown out straight wall 30-30, matches or out performs 30-30 performance primarily due to the 360 BHMR higher pressure.

360 BHMR has same pressure as 350 LGND. The 360 BHMR case is slightly longer and holds more powder than 350 LGND. Bullets are a cat's hair apart (355 vs 358). With similar bullets, 360 BHMR will out perform 350 LGND.

375 Win has slightly pressure (55K), is a longer case, and has more usable powder capacity than 360 BHMR. With similar weight bullets and modern powders/loading procedures the 375 Win should best the 360 BHMR.

360 BHMR obviously works in Henry rifles. The 360 BHMR dimensions and pressure most likely works in Marlin 336 rifles. The 50K pressure of the 360 BHMR may be too much for (non-Big Bore) Win 94 rifles.

Where are they getting .358 Core-Lokt bullets?

The 350 Legend and now the .360 Buckhammer have no slots available on my team. There is space for .358 Core-Lokts though.

If you want a 360 BH by all means go for it. I really hope they keep bringing them out. It is the hype and pimping the gun mag writers do for the ammo and gun companies that turns me off.

If I lived in a 1.8" state, I'd buy a 360 BHMR. This cartridge is optimized for 1.8" states.

In a 1.8" state, if you want a AR15 platform you are limited to 350 LGND or 450 BM. If you know the deer are going to be close 44Mag, 454 Casull, or 450 BM are great. The thumper winner is 450 BM. But, except for the AR thing, I'm thinking there is only one 1.8" all around winner: 360 BHMR.

On top of that, while the 360 BHMR may not be the best choice for straight wall states, the 360 BHMR holds it's own with other straight wall cartridges and, inside 150-200 yards the 360 BHMR holds it's own with medium power bottle necks (243win, 6.5CM, 30-30, 35REM). So, I can see folks choosing the 360 BHMR as their rifle in all kinds of hunting states and situations.

Although, a good bolt option is a key to cartridge success these days . . . .

Too bad for Remington and Henry, I don't live in a 1.8" state and I love my lever and single shot 375 Win.

Yup, likely, without a bolt gun(s) the 360 BHMR will fall flat like previous lever gun revitalization cartridges: 348 Win, 284 Win, 375 Win, 307 Win, 356 Win, 444 Marlin, 308ME, 338ME, and 450 Marlin.

While still loved, they are only avail used. Marlin/Ruger and Henry do not chamber ANY of these. Winchester chambers 450 Marlin in the 94. CVA chambers 444 Marlin in a single shot Scout.

You are not missing much, just stating the obvious in the "Cartridge Clash" section.
360 BuckHammer is better in lever and single shots.
350 Legend better in AR and bolt actions
360 BuckHammer is new and only available in the Henry and 350 Legend has several rifles available, ect ect.

Ballistics of the 360 BHMR also beat the 350 LGND. Both cartridges have the same pressure. 360 BHMR has more powder capacity. In like bullets the 360 BHMR beats the 350 LGND every time. Also, the 360 BHMR can seat longer and heavier bullets then the 350 LGND. 360 BHMR is simply a better 1.8 straight wall state cartridge.

As far a bolt guns for rimmed cartridges. The Remington 788 was chambered in 44 Mag and 30-30 and the accuracy of the 788 matched the 700. Also, Ruger chambers the 357 mag and 44 mag in a fine bolt gun (77/357, 77/44). The Lee Enfield is another example of a fine rimmed cartridge bolt gun. A Ruger 77/360 would be nice.

The 360 BHMR and 350 LGND are both cartridges hampered and held back by a 1.8 case length limit. The 360 BHMR uses the full 1.8 case length and in most categories is better of the two cartridges for humane and responsible hunting....

Well, I still haven't seen a lever rifle or single shot rifle yet for the 360Buckhammer. I'm sure they'll show up someday. LOL

Al, now I am thinking 350 legend brass might work. The brass is slightly longer - 350 Legend is 1.710 " . the maximum case length for the 351 SL is 1.38 ". A little trimming might do the trick.

When I run out of other projects I may pick up some 350 Legend brass and give it a go.

A follow-up on using 300 Blackout cases to form cases for 351 Self loader. I gave it a try and ended up splitting/crushing the neck when I tried to seat a bullet. I lubed the case before using the 351 SL expander. The mouth opened up to 35 cal. but a crease remained where the shoulder once was. I very cautiously approached seating the bullet.- a little at a time. When the bullet reached the crease, it stopped and the brass crushed.

I need to get a few 350 Legend cases to try that route. I have a saw I use the cut down 35 Whelen brass when forming 36 RPP cases. It should work fine to shorten the Legend case .33". If that all goes well, the next unknown is whether the "rimless" rim is sufficient for extraction in my 351 SL.
